Registering a “foreign” vaccination certificate with the government?

An ad yesterday read: Registering a “foreign” vaccination certificate with the government. To register a vaccination received in another country enter the requested data in the following web site. The process was fairly straightforward. They recommend using Firefox browser (which I did). Scan your vaccination card too since they ask you to upload the file.

Well guess what? Using Firefox I was able to access the site, but it would never send me the code needed to verify my email. With internet explorer or Google Chrome, I could get the code but could never advance to the page to put it in. So, I thought I was smarter than a 5th grader. I entered my information on Internet Explorer and got the code. But the Firefox application ejected it! I gave up!

2% withholding on interest of a CDP?

If a CDP is short-term, then 2% of the interest is withheld. This can only be gotten back if you file an Ecuadorian income tax return.

Some coops say it will be withheld if the term of the CDP is less than 1 year.
Others say withheld if term is less than 6 months.
Anyone know what is correct?

A few questions from a newbie

Hello everyone:

Do you suggest having a US number for banking purposes? Although I have Traveling Mailbox, how do you get credit cards through the mail? I am still waiting, over a month to receive a letter, registered mail, from the US.

Your answers are always helpful.

Sunshine needs a guardian angel

Sunshine was “loaned” to us as a surrogate mother for five rescued puppies whose mother died shortly after giving birth. Sunshine was only able to provide minimal milk due to her neglected and malnourished condition. She was very eager, however, to cuddle and dote on the pups.

The puppies’ rescuer has been taking care of Sunshine for 4-5 weeks because the previous owners do not want her back and have threatened to put her out on the street. The rescuer lives in an apartment and her landlady wants Sunshine out of the apartment immediately.

Sunshine is an adorable 1.5 year-old Terrier mix. She is spayed, vaccinated and wormed and has received flea meds. She is a manageable small-medium size!

We highly suspect that Sunshine endured abuse (possibly by a female) at her original “home”. Because of this, she is very tentative and nervous in new situations. She wets herself when you raise your voice to her. It’s best if she’s crated at night and has access to the outdoors during the day. She needs lots of love and patience with a special, dog-savvy person, who understands how to deal with past trauma. She appears to be fine with other doggies and older children.

But wait… there’s more! What if I told you that Sunshine comes with a complimentary doggie training session with Cuenca’s expert, Heather Conley? She is willing to offer her services free of charge for Sunshine and her person! Transportation outside of Cuenca and translation services, if needed, are not included.

Would you be willing to open your generous heart and home to Sunshine, either as a temporary foster or permanent placement?

Injured dog found January 12th

Found dog

Mixed breed Shepherd, age 3, not neutered and about 50-60 pounds.

This dog was injured in some way and lying in the grass outside the front gate to my apartment. He was very weak and did not want to stand, but was friendly enough to let me touch him. He was causing all the neighbor’s dogs on the block to bark ceaselessly.

I called Dr. Gallardo, who took him to his clinic. Later in the afternoon, after medication and food, the dog was on his feet and in much better condition. He doesn’t appear to be a stray or street dog. He’s well fed, clean, and otherwise appears in good health. He’s very friendly, not timid or aggressive.

This was in the Heroes de Verdeloma and Presidente Borrero neighborhood, a block uphill from Rafael Maria Arizaga and Borrero.

Please contact me if you own or recognize this dog.

Are there any other pilgrims out there that are also looking for a spiritual retreat?
It’s time! All we need now is a group and a coordinator.

There is a retreat coming up at Inti Kamari that is just what we are looking for but it is only in Spanish.

Well, we’ve put it out there.

You can still get your yellow sweet corn from Bernan’s

Bernie and I are staying healthy and busy here at home. When we do go out, we always have our masks and of course we are fully vaccinated.

We will be getting a shipment of yellow sweet corn from Cotacachi in the next week or two and there is still some available for you! But… due to the weather and Mother Nature, the ears for this harvest will be “seconds.” That means the ears will be smaller and the kernels will be too. One of our customers said that she always purchased the smaller ears because the kernels are more tender…

Recommendation for VIP Home Health Care, medical

My husband fell in the bathroom with his back blocking the door for entry. I used the Medical Alert Monitor to call VIP for assistance.

This team answered immediately, asked pertinent questions and were here in my home very quickly.

They were able to gain access to the bathroom, administered to my husband and ultimately accompanied us to the hospital. Poulin explained to the doctors what had happened so they could take the proper action in a timely fashion.

Poulin contacted and collaborated with our medical facilitator, Diana Vera.

This medical alert system is excellent and well worth the cost. It not only efficiently took care of the problem but gave me peace of mind.

Recommendation for Kolo Restaurant & Bakery, restaurant

We have been frequenting Kolo Restaurant & Bakery regularly, usually several times each week, since its inception. We have observed many changes over the last year because, as with any business, there have been growing pains and significant improvements. Recently, there have been lovely improvements to the menu and attentive improvements to the service. A big thanks to Ron, an accomplished restaurateur, for his consulting and influence, and to Frank Gonzales for his open approach. The food quality is excellent.

We strongly recommend Kolo as a go-to restaurant for breakfast or lunch!

Free Language Exchange by YEES

A fun and relaxing environment to use your Spanish and English. Come and join us at Selina’s terrace (Calle Larga 7-93) every Saturday for a chance to practice with native English and Spanish speakers and meet new friends. This Exchange is basically a casual conversation where we switch languages every 30 minutes. This event is free, however, due to the pandemic, don’t forget to follow these directions:

– If the receptionist asks what you want, tell him/her that you’re a member of #YEES and there’s a language exchange at the terrace that you’re attending.
– Even though Selina’s terrace is an open space and they have all the biosecurity measures, the pandemic isn’t over yet so don’t forget to keep social distance.
– The conversation will be spontaneous as usual. The only rule is switching languages every 30 minutes. You decide which language goes first.

January 15th, from 2 to 4 PM, Free event, Calle Larga 7-93, Cuenca.
