JEP online banking; worth the hassle?

I use an Android 10 tablet and an Android 10 smart phone. Apparently I need to download the JEP Movil app on my smart phone and the JEP Token app on either device to set up online banking, which I haven’t done yet.

A November 13 GringoPost thread mentioned several obstacles, including using a VPN. My VPN (which I’m very happy with) doesn’t have any Ecuador IP options.

Should I pass on pursuing online banking and simply occasionally check my balance at the branch or pay 30¢ to check my balance at the ATM?

Thank you,

Cindy Benson, live!

Real Stories from the Hogar- Can’t find your way home?

Do you know what happens to those with dementia, here in Cuenca, if they wander away from home and cannot find their way back? Where does 9-11 call when they have such an emergency? Did you know that Foundation Hogar de Esperanza (Home of Hope) is the only foundation here in Cuenca that can provide a complete range of services for those lost? Regularly, 9-11 and the police call upon us to help those lost or homeless.

Looking for a bed

Recent immigrants need a bed of any kind. If you have an extra one call us and we will organize it. The people who need it don’t have any money to buy one so this would be a donation. Also, they are looking for work if you know of any.

Colored sugars or liquid food coloring

Was hoping to bake some Christmas cookies but cannot find the red and green colored sugars so I am now looking for the liquid food colorings with which to color plain, course sugar for decorating.

Locally, I am only finding a paste that comes in colors and that won’t work.

Thank you for your thoughts and recommendations.

Dog training – Tip # 4: “Dog growls when you approach his food bowl”

Change his association! All dogs closely monitor the resources they value, some more than others. One big resource is food, and some dogs can get really nasty about it. If you get in the habit of dropping something really delicious by his food bowl while he is eating, he will come to welcome your presence near his food bowl rather than feel threatened by it. Just walk by at the distance that does not incur a growl and drop a little something. Over time, walk by a little closer. So simple, eh?

Got other training questions? Call me, I can help. I am a CTP (Certified Training Partner) of the prestigious Karen Pryor Academy. (

Recommendation for Aleppo Furniture and Design

Fernando Mora built several pieces of furniture for me according to my specifications and internet pictures. I was looking for a simple bed frame and side tables. I shopped around and found the bedroom furniture available in conventional stores to be very strange . . . black, fussy, padded, low, and just odd and expensive!

Fernando built exactly what I wanted. He also built six dining room chairs upholstered with a zebra print that I found to be stylish and exotic. He happily returned to tweak a couple of issues that I wanted adjusted. He speaks perfect English. His prices are reasonable. He and his wife are a pleasure and are very honest and reputable.

Reminder survey on the integration as a foreigner in Cuenca

Hello Dear People,

My name is Gustav Lehstmann and I am a geography student from Germany at the University of Hamburg. I am currently writing my bachelor thesis on the integration of retirees from the Global North in Cuenca, Ecuador. I came up with this idea because I did a year of voluntary service in Riobamba and visited Cuenca several times.
