A great man killed and a possibility for the offender to go free

A dear friend of mine was walking down the sidewalk in El Centro on Saturday night and was run over and killed by a drunk driver who hopped the curb and crushed him with his car. The driver of the car initially fled but was caught a couple blocks from the scene and apprehended by police. The offender was found to have alcohol in his system. The offender from a wealthy family and has prior charges for DWI in 2013, 2014 and 2016.

This time though, he killed a good man with his irresponsible actions. Even facing this new horrendous charge, by hiring one of the best lawyers in Ecuador, he was able to be released the next day, with only an ankle monitor. While we have a group of people that will be meeting with the prosecutor of the case, tomorrow, to push for the full punishment of the law and to get justice for our dear friend, Henry Bautista.

In the meantime, I think it’s important to share the story of Henry Bautisa, a 39-year old, husband and father of two children. A wonderful man with many friends, including myself, that was a role model for my 14-year old son and many other younger kids in the community, through his volunteering efforts as a Volleyball coach and mentor in general to many in the area.

I ask that you share the story of Henry, share this post and the pictures below, make noise throughout the Cuenca community that money doesn’t equal non-responsibility from the law!
