JEP Bank cut their service to pay the water bill

Where do I go to pay the water bill? Is there a water company? JEP said to find another cooperative bank to pay it. Does anyone know of the coop bank called CREA? It has some interesting architecture from a nationwide call for a design. Very nice. But where do I pay the water bill for my rented condo?

Looking for glass, crystal prisms

Is there a shop or shops, here in Cuenca where I might find glass crystal prisms of the type that typically make up chandeliers? I’m looking more for the 1”-2” round ones in particular. Are there any lighting shops around or has anyone else seen anything like this in their travels? Thanks for your consideration of my request.

Pre-holiday cleaning services – Edvi Limpieza Total

Now that the Cuenca Independence Holidays are over and Veteran’s Day was just yesterday, it means there are only a few more days before Thanksgiving celebrations and Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties begin. Is your house ready for visitors and events?

We all want our homes to shine and our guests to feel very comfortable during the holidays. Sometimes we need some extra help – an outside cleaning service that can come in and polish up the edges, clean the windows, or do any other cleaning that may be needed. We can even paint when required, clean upholstery. We have an extendable ladder for cleaning high places that are difficult to reach.

We set an exact time for your cleaning event and arrive promptly. We unload our supplies – soaps, waxes, cleansers, polishes, brooms, bucket, vacuum cleaners, rags – everything we need for our job. Within moments, we begin work and clean in the order requested, doing the first room we need first, etc. When we have finished, I, Edgar, present the factura and payment is made.

The quoted price is fair and reasonable. We come in a team of 3 or 4 family members, depending on the size of your project. Consider that we can have a person cleaning in 3 or 4 different rooms and you will see how quickly we progress. Sometimes, like in a kitchen, all 4 of us join together, each with a specified area. There are no monthly payments to IESS and you don’t need to worry about SRI because we pay our own taxes. No additional payments are required by law at any time.

Text us today with a request for cleaning or a quote. We’ll be happy to reply.

Call soon for an appointment. You’ll be glad you did. We’ve been working in Cuenca over 16 years with many satisfied clients.

Recommendation for Adrian Puli, translator, transportation and handyman

Adrian is extremely resourceful and very knowledgeable. He knows who sells what and who has the best prices in Cuenca. For instance, who would know that each of the Supermaxi prices vary from one another? Or that there’s only three places in all of Cuenca that sells one type of light bulbs? Adrian not only knows where to go but if your Spanish is not that great, he can translate for you and keep you from being gringo. If you need something and aren’t sure where to go, give Adrian a call!

Recommendation for Diana Vera, medical facilitator

If you are looking for the best medical facilitator in Cuenca, I believe Diana Vera to be your go to person. She speaks perfect English first and foremost, is very personable, very patient and generous with her time, does excellent research, has a car if you need someone to pick you up and take you home from your appointments, and has an excellent network of medical professionals. She has helped me to find who I believe to be the best ENT at Mount Sinai, and she has just done an all-around amazing job for me and my family. I have used her twice now, and plan on using her whenever I need a medical facilitator. Diana Vera is the best.

Recommendation for Orlando S, driver, tour guide

I have used Orlando several times now and he exceeds expectations. We had to catch a flight in GYE and came upon a strike at a bridge on the way. Orlando negotiated with the strikers and the police and got us through the blockage and we made it to the airport in time for our flight.

We also used him as a driver/guide from Mindo thru Quito to Cuenca. His recommended stops and conversation were priceless as we saw cloud forest birds, climbed a bit on Cotopaxi, swam in Baños, visited Ingapirca and sampled good food and hotels along the way.

He knows how and where! Great driver/guide.

Recommendation for San Franciso Relojero, watch repair

Recently had a problem with my Casio G-Shock electric watch. I took it to Manuel Yungo at Pare Aguirre 6-38 and waited as he opened the watch, diagnosed the problem, and resolved the issue. A few days later I returned with my Helbros electric watch which had recently had a battery installed and would only run for 40 minutes. I left the watch with Manuel and returned in 90 minutes to see the watch running. Manuel handed me the battery which had recently been installed and a small piece of metal that was inside the watch.

His work ethic is outstanding. If you don’t speak Spanish, use Google Translate to compose a note and hand it to Manuel when you arrive and hand him your watch.

Recommendation for Jose Gabriel Cabeza, personal trainer who gets you results

Hi, My name is Amy Sindicic. I am new to Cuenca. I arrived in May of 2021. I have gotten serious results with my personal trainer, Jose Cabeza.

Please see below a before and after photo. The before photo was taken 3-years ago with my first personal trainer with whom I lost 25 lbs. in 6 months. He got angry when I took meds and gained weight and so I stopped working out till I met Jose Cabeza in May 2021, weighing 282. After 5 months of training 3 times a week, my weight was 238. I started taking meds again and gained 5 lbs. in a week. Jose designed a diet and my weight is below 236.

Free Language Exchange by YEES

A fun and relaxing environment to use your Spanish and English. Come and join us at Selina’s terrace (Calle Larga 7-93) every Saturday for a chance to practice with native English and Spanish speakers and meet new friends. This Exchange is basically a casual conversation where we switch languages every 30 minutes. This event is free, however, due to the pandemic, don’t forget to follow these directions:

– If the receptionist asks what you want, tell him/her that you’re a member of #YEES and there’s a language exchange at the terrace that you’re attending.
– Even though Selina’s terrace is an open space and they have all the biosecurity measures, the pandemic isn’t over yet so don’t forget to keep social distance.
– The conversation will be spontaneous as usual. The only rule is switching languages every 30 minutes. You decide which language goes first.

November 13th, from 2 to 4 PM, Free event, Calle Larga 7-93, Cuenca.

It’s all pork this week at King Smokehouse

Felix just posted a recipe for (soon to be famous) Southern Country Cornbread. Guess what? You can do something else delicious, simple, and satisfying with that same cornbread; stuffed pork chops. Did you know that King Smokehouse has the most tender and delicious and thickest porkchops in Cuenca? When he says delicious, he is not kidding. These tasty treats come two to a pack and are market priced by weight at only $4 per pound. You will not find a better chop anywhere. So why stuff a perfect chop? To make it even more (if possible) perfect. So, so easy:

Make the cornbread stuffing recipe (if you cannot find it just let us know and it will be in your inbox or WhatsApp) and let it rest while you prep the chops.

Take a succulent chop and cut a pocket 2/3rds of the way through the chop. Rub the chop with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Heat olive (or other oil) in a sautee pan until the oil shimmers. Pop in the chops and let sear until brown. Flip over and sear the other side. Let rest until you can handle and stuff the pocket with your yummy stuffing. Put a toothpick through the chop to hold together and return to the pan. Place in a 350°/180 C oven, covered for 15 minutes (or until 155 degrees). Take off lid and let crisp up.

Serve with your favorite sides and enjoy. Of course, don’t forget all his other amazing products. We are heading into the last week of turkey orders; so, don’t delay, order today.

Daily from 9 AM until 5 PM (Sat. 9:30-4:30). Closed Sunday, Coronel Talbot 8-66 y Simon Bolivar
