Orocio needs help now

Desperately seeking a foster or permanent home for Orocio. He’s supposedly a senior citizen about 14-years old, although he looks younger in photos. He showed up at a park and stayed for 3 days until a kind person took him to the vet where he received meds for a skin problem and was dewormed. He has already been neutered.

If you’re interested in helping this sweet and deserving old guy, please contact me.

Free Language Exchange by YEES

A fun and relaxing environment to use your Spanish and English. Come and join us at Selina’s terrace (Calle Larga 7-93) every Saturday for a chance to practice with native English and Spanish speakers and meet new friends. This Exchange is basically a casual conversation where we switch languages every 30 minutes. This event is free. However, due to the pandemic, don’t forget to follow these directions:

– If the receptionist asks what you want, tell him/her that you’re a member of #YEES and there’s a language exchange at the terrace that you’re attending.
– Even though Selina’s terrace is an open space and they have all the biosecurity measures, the pandemic isn’t over yet so don’t forget to keep social distance.
– The conversation will be spontaneous as usual. The only rule is switching languages every 30 minutes. You decide which language goes first.

September 25th, from 2 PM to 4 PM, Free event, Calle Larga 7-93, Cuenca.

St. Christopher’s return to in-person worship

In-person worship has resumed at 4 PM each Sunday, with Covid-19 protocol being followed. Masks are required.

St. Christopher Episcopal Mission is a Cuenca-based faith community formed in 2019, as the first English-language Episcopal congregation in South America.

Vision statement
St. Christopher Episcopal Mission

St. Christopher’s Episcopal Mission (SCEM), in a collaborative successful partnership with Mision Sagrada Familia, will be a welcoming gathering place, a spiritual center in Cuenca and the surrounding neighborhood of a theologically humble group of believers worshipping God, meeting Jesus and demonstrating the practical love of Jesus to members, visitors and the poor.

Through action, SCEM will demonstrate what it means to be a follower of Jesus with a commitment to serve those in need by doing good works quietly, without fanfare or notice while fulfilling the question “what would Jesus do”?

SCEM will be a growing force for good in the community, known for outreach ministry.

SCEM, with the help of a Priest will offer Christian educational activities for spiritual growth through liturgical worship, group discussions, learning, and education filled with the Spirit of God’s love for us in our loving hearts and minds.

Visitors will experience Christ centered individuals within an inclusive, multi-cultural, bi-lingual, and multi-generational worshipping community of believers, with close bonds between members, committed to social justice while helping others.

SCEM offers an Episcopal liturgical worship service and experience to the community.

Each Sunday at 4 to 5 PM with social after worship, free, Bartolomé de las Casas y 5-34 Tirso de Molina, Cuenca.

It’s today. YapaFest 2021. Come and enjoy the festival

You may be familiar with the word Yapa. When shopping a local mercado, a vendor with often give you a little more than you expected. That little extra is Yapa. During the pandemic, many of our artist friends, musical and artisans, have suffered. It is time for us as a community to join together to enjoy a day in the outdoors and give a little extra… our attention to the arts.

Survey about tourism in Cuenca and surroundings

Hello, We are a team of tourism professionals who are working on a “tourism and development” project in Ecuador. We will be starting with the Cuenca area and would like to know the opinion of expats about tourism in Cuenca and Ecuador.

For this purpose, we created a survey, which does not collect any personal information. The purpose of this survey is to have a better idea of what we need to improve in order to offer quality services that satisfy tourists while we help the country. There is also a section in the survey for general comments and suggestions.

We would highly appreciate your help.

So he says to me, “…why does my dog need training?”

It was a Cuencan acquaintance speaking to me. He had just adopted a German-Shepherdy kind of dog; five-months old. I said to him, if you leave your dog with me for two weeks, I’ll train him for you – for free. He was perplexed. Why does my dog need training? he wanted to know.

Why, indeed?
