If you have been looking for a new or a secondary checking account with a debit card and no minimum balance for your savings or checking accounts, this may be it! We have had a Capital 1-360 checking and savings account for about 8 years now and live in Ecuador most of the time. Great service and now…they are offering a free checking account and ATM/Debit Card plus a sign up bonus of $100! I get nothing out of this but to spread a great product and be a good friend! Win, Win. Just go to CapitalOne.com/friend and sign up. No joke.
One thing they started doing earlier this year w/o notice…at least which I did not see, was they give me monetary credit 2 days before the actual deposit is due from Social Security and a State Pension check! Thought it might be for being a good customer for 8 years. But look, that is in their offer here for everyone! One time the ATM machine (in Ecuador) I use forgot to give me the money. I always get a receipt so I called Capital One and they gave me credit for the transaction even before it was verified the machine had malfunctioned. That is service. We still have a brick and mortar bank but we get so little interest on our savings we are not even required to advise the tax man! But, Capital One does. No foreign transaction fees on purchases with their debit card or ATM fees (Based upon the EC Bank’s ATM you use. I use Banco de Austro — never a fee from them). My other bank in the USA will charge me $5 just to check my balance at an any ATM other than theirs. Guess which ATM/Debit Card I use when travelling?
The only hitch is you will need a USA address to get the card and checks sent to. We did ours before the move to EC and have a relative the cards go to when they expire.
