Being a part of real change and impact

Carlos suffers from severe depression. He does not know his father and he watched his mother die, falling down a flight of stairs, two years ago, shortly after his little sister was born. He now lives with his grandmother in a little room. She has little income and recycles plastic bottles. Carlos has few dreams. At six-years old, he just wants to feel good. The constant epilepsy attacks and memories of his mom torture him. Our university students visited them back in July and we have been providing him with medical appointments and medications since. He loves coming to Foundation Hogar de Esperanza (Home of Hope) because we always make him feel better and his attacks have been less frequent.

Today, we had a real treat for him. The staff from Bigotte came to the foundation and cut hair for some of the boys and he got a professional haircut. We are so grateful to businesses like Bigotte who donate their services to help children in need. We encourage you to support Bigotte and tell them thanks for helping Carlos in his difficult situation. Bigotte is located in Edificio Dali on Gran Colombia and Miguel Morocho.

How can you help? We have a recycling area set up for plastics in our Expat Services Center where you can drop off plastics for Carlos’s grandmother. If your business has ideas to support our work, you can contact us. If you would like to make a donation you can do so at: You can also drop into our Expat Services Center at Mariscal Sucre 12-84 and Juan Montalvo. Let’s show Bigotte our appreciation.

Looking for suite for short-term rental

Looking for suite for short-term rental in Cuenca, $500 to $1,000

I am trying to find a super comfortable hotel or short-term apartment. I am in a wheelchair so I need the place to be entirely accessible. No stairs. Two people in late 60s (no parties) Kitchenette would be ideal. I have scoured the internet, but have my concerns about the lovely places I have researched. However, I don’t trust the photos. We know Cuenca, having previously lived here, when I was walking. Any assistance is deeply appreciated.

We will be needing the place at the beginning of December while our house is being painted.

Please do not call. I check my email each day.

Re-open my business

Hello Dear Expats, I am Ari Cuenca, and I am here today because I am looking for someone who wants to invest in my business.

A couple years before the pandemic started, I opened a small business as a distributer of a food supplier. I was doing pretty good until the pandemic showed up and then it killed my business. I was out of business for almost a year, struggling, but I made it through somehow. Now my old customers are calling me back and some new too. So, in order to continue with my business I need a little capital to start it. If any
of you are interested in investing, please contact me at, or at my cell 099 989 2624

Recommendation for Jesus – Ct Services Cuenca, cat towers & scratch posts

We were looking for a cat tower that was built to last and gave Jesus a try. He delivered a tower that exceeded our expectations. The materials used were as advertised and the workmanship was excellent. Our cats love the new tower and we were so pleased that we ordered a second one. Jesus speaks English and built the tower to our specifications – it was great to see the pride he took in his work when he delivered it.
