Travel to the US

Hello friends. During our visit to Cuenca we got sick. My husband with pneumonia (covid) is still in the hospital. Hopefully this week he will be discharged from the hospital. I am in home treatment with asymptomatic covid.

In 2 weeks we need to return to the US. Of course, we’ll not be able to pass PCR negative test.

On the CDC website, there is an option of recovery letter from health care provider that gives approval to travel.

Giving new purpose to items you no longer need

What does Hogar de Esperanza do with your donations of clothing and household items? First and foremost, we give them away to those who are most in need of them. Great care is taken to make sure that they get exactly what they need. Any extra items are sold in our thrift shop, where all of the proceeds go back into directly supporting the foundation’s work of helping those in need.

Are you moving soon – perhaps across town or maybe even back home – and you have items that you can’t take with you? Do you wish you had someone to come carry away those items remaining after your moving sale, that you don’t know what to do with? Were you just spring-cleaning last week, and came across clothes in your closets that you no longer wanted? If you would like to do some incredible things with those items you no longer need or want, let us turn them into something valuable to help those in need.

We accept anything that you wish to donate, and put it to immediate use. You can come by the thrift shop, which is located at 8-18 Juan Montalvo y Mariscal Sucre, to drop off items Monday through Friday from 10 AM – 5 PM, and Saturday from 10 AM – 2 PM. We also do pick-ups of donations, so feel free to contact us to arrange a time. Thank you so much for your support of Hogar de Esperanza – we could not do any of this without you. http://www.hogaresperanza.org/en/donations/

Cat scratchers and towers

Cats are curious, fearless animals and they love to play. Life locked up at home can be boring for them without games or surprises. Remember that they need to meet their needs and scratching is one of their basic instincts, both to file their nails, as a form of play, for anxiety or insecurity or to defend their territory. Many times we get angry because our cat has scratched the sofa or the curtains, but we should ask ourselves, are we giving it any alternative?

Scratchers for cats are a good gift for them, it helps them to stay active and keep their nails in good condition. Plus, it’s yours, yours alone. Something that cats love.

– 5 reasons why your cat should use a scratching post:

1. To keep their nails healthy and strong.
2. To stay active and avoid health problems.
3. To play and release stress
4. To create shelter
5. For their curious instinct.

Constructed entirely of good wood, strong and stable solids, with strong sisal and high quality carpet cloth.

I have different designs and models. Prices vary from each one.

I also manufacture scratchers based on your budget. You will like it a lot!

High rates of return + safety/security

Because many GringoPost readers may not be familiar with Cooperco, I’d like to introduce this exceptional co-operative to you. Established in Cuenca in 1965, Cooperco has, until now, been focused almost exclusively on servicing the Cuencano community. That exclusive emphasis has begun to shift. In addition to continuing to serve the Cuencano community, Cooperco, in 2020, expanded its capability to now include a strong initiative serving Cuenca’s international community. Starting from a decidedly strong base, Cooperco has only grown stronger. It is the cooperative that offers CDs with not only high rates of return but unparalleled safety and security of principal. That’s a combination that is hard to beat.

Cooperco has numerous offices throughout the city of Cuenca. We have English speaking account personnel that can easily explain our numerous CD options and, more importantly, how Cooperco provides a clear investment advantage. Check us out. Learn how Cooperco can help to make the difference for you. There is a reason that countless individuals as well as many financial institutions invest with us. We may not be the biggest but we are definitely the best. Call or email me for more information.

Cheers.

Recommendation for Dr. Santiago Romo, ozone therapy and general care physician

After determining that it was not kidney stones causing the strange “pains” in my lower back, I went to see Dr. Santiago Romo for a diagnosis. He recommended that I get an MRI and a CT, after which he pointed out that I have three herniated discs in my lower back and a disintegrating C-6 in my neck. He faithfully came to our residence twice a week to treat my maladies with ozone injections for about three months – one treatment for my neck, the other for my lower back. The debilitating vertigo which I had been experiencing has gone away, and I am most grateful for that. One never knows what causes some strange disabilities, but he correctly determined what might be causing the vertigo. Thank you Doctor!

The herniated discs are a “work in progress” and, so far, are not bothering me as they had been.
Dr. Romo is a quintessential professional, very kind, and very friendly. I would highly recommend him for both his ozone therapy and as a Primary Care Physician

Recommendation for Carlos Ramirez at Blue Box insurance

I am hoping this robust referral for bilingual Carlos will help others seeking health/property insurance or looking to replace their current broker with an existing health plan.
When I became aware I could change out my deadbeat broker for Carlos I was ecstatic, as he had given me free advice during the Bellgenica reign and since then.
Since switching, he has aided me many times with the increasingly difficult-to-deal-with Humana insurance.

He has just opened a new office in Manta and while I feared he would be stretched too thin, that’s not been the case as he created for me a video on how to access the Humana Spanish-only site and a phone follow up when I hit a glitch.
Stop in for a free consultation soon.

Recommendation for Mega Clean Lavandería, laundry

First of all, owner Byron is always responsive and cheerful. And he/his laundromat always does great work. It doesn’t hurt that he speaks English. He picks up and delivers personally from either his bright blue moto or from his car.

But this time he exceeded himself.

My white sheets and white shirts were getting grayer by the day. They were positively-wow!-gray. I tried soaking them overnight in bleach, in vinegar, in OxyClean — you name it, and nothing worked.

Byron came to take a look and two days later he gave me back my sheets and shirts . . . and they were brilliant white. I couldn’t believe it.

Not only that, on another project that involved shrinkable fabric, he followed my instructions to the letter.

AND he also returned a very smelly dog blanket and removed the odor completely.

Why would anyone use any other laundry service?

Hi, Sunday Brunch Cuenca family.

New product alert:
Homemade Southern Biscuit Mix, 2 lbs. for $10

You can make biscuits yourself whenever you need. Just add milk.
You can also use as a topping for casseroles, cobblers, and more.
Keep in the freezer and just take out what you need.

We now also have ravioli.
Our 3-cheese ravioli comes frozen in a pack of 32 for $10. The pasta is homemade. Take out however many you need, boil, and then toss in your own sauce of choice. We recommend 8 per person. So delicious. You can’t beat homemade pasta. We’ve been eating them ourselves with slices of our sourdough.
