Those who shop at the local markets understand how hard some of the people there work.
I told a local market lady I wanted to interview her, but in reality, I wanted to treat her to a full day of beers, food and fun.
It is time for our mothers to start worrying about sending their kids back to school.
Our dilemma: 22 shelter children living at Casa Mara Amor + 78 shelter children living outside the shelter x $95 = $9,500. This is the amount needed to provide our children with shoes, uniforms, underwear, backpacks and supplies. (Please note: thanks to our mailing list generosity, we have raised $1000 of this goal since last Friday)
How you can help: We are looking for one hundred $95 sponsors to help our kids return to school. If you can afford more, that would be great too.
If you are unable to contribute the entire amount at this time, we are also offering $20 partial sponsorships.
Scholarship payments can be made through PayPal or dropped off at Mujeres Con Exito.
To use our PayPal account— go to PayPal, insert email address mcbsusan at outlook dot com and deposit the amount of your donation.
The intercambio will be postponed one week because of the feriado.
The following Monday please login at the Zoom link below and join an enthusiastic group of native Spanish and English speakers as we converse in each other’s language in an encouraging and supportive environment.
All levels of ability are welcome, so don’t be shy–even if you don’t speak a word of the language you want to learn, you will be helped by those that do.
Are you ready for a quite different kind of “weather?”…and to get to know the beautiful, charming, and hardworking people of Naranjal?
Hogar de Esperanza would like to invite you to join us in a Cultural trip to Naranjal.
Early June, Sandro received a phone call from a foundation in Naranjal, doing great work for people with Cerebral Palsy. They invited us over to see their facilities and talk a little bit of a way to collaborate between the two foundations.
Reality can be so different from one place to another, and this was not the exception. Families struggling to get their sick kids to get a doctor’s appointment, patients needing transportation to come to get free physical therapy session in FDN. So, we want to bring all the help we can get.
All proceeds from this trip will be donated to FDN Ecuador, to purchase food for families in extreme poverty. During our tour of the foundation, you will get the chance to meet the children and to give them personally, the donations.
Some of the highlights of the trip:
• Learn how to make chocolate from a Chocolatier
• Tour of the cacao plantations.
• Farm to Table style lunch both days.
• Interpretation of the extraction of the red crab within the mangrove swamp
• Boat trip through the estuary to observe dolphins, mangroves, and bird watching
*Includes Transportation, lodging, meals, cultural activities, and sightseeing.
Did we mention it is nice and warm in Naranjal. Join us August 13-14. 2 days/1 night.
If you have any questions, please send us an email. 5 seats available, so hurry and book your seat.

Heart disease and stroke are among the five leading causes of death in North America. When they occur, time and quality of first response is of the essence and makes a critical difference in outcome. It can literally save your life.
The MedAlert service was created especially because the all-important First Response system in Ecuador is a far cry from what we are used to in North America.
MedAlert does not connect you with a well-meaning friend or neighbor but with a seasoned First Response team and ambulance service that are a significant cut above what you realistically might get here in Cuenca, which can sometimes be hit and miss.
We have created a Calendar of interesting explore, discover and learn Trips.
Hope you can join us and, if you would like, we can also create amazing experiences for family and friends.
