Do you know – codigo dactilar?

I am trying to download a copy of my Covid vaccination registration from the gov’t. They require my “codigo dactilar” on the form, however, I do not know what that is or how to do that. All other blank spaces on the request form are done.

I think codigo dactilar may mean my fingerprint code.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks,

A last week before a break for la Guarida

Dear Friends. La Guarida will be closing from the 7th of August to the 29th. Our last week before the break is jam packed with awesomeness. We are paying homage to Brazil – its people, its culture, its food, its films. On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday we will have a new theme from this gorgeous nation. More below.

Don’t forget that we serve breakfast, Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 1 PM. During the same hours you may come and check out our new gallery called “El Tiestero.” We are exhibiting more than 70 works by renowned ceramicist, Eduardo Segovia. Breakfast and art ~ no reservations required. Come join us.

Tuesday 6:30 PM – Central do Brasil.
Dora, an old woman, works at a Rio de Janeiro central station, writing letters for customers and mailing them. She hates customers and calls them ‘trash’. Josue is a 9-year-old boy who never met his father. His mother is sending letters to his father through Dora. When she dies in a car accident, Dora takes Josue and takes a trip with him to find his father. Simply one of the best Latin American films ever. Don’t you miss this Brazilian jewel.

Wednesday 6:30 PM – Twelve Angry Men.
Is there anything to say about this spectacular masterpiece? Don’t miss it.

Thursday 7:15 PM. Admission $7. Music from Brazil. Andrea Ruilova and a special guest will join us to highlight Brazilian music, its sounds, its pain and its glory. Come listen to bossa nova tunes and enjoy a great meal. Your admission fee goes 100% to the artists. Come support these talented musicians and don’t miss this musical journey. Come rediscover Brazilian music.

Friday 2 – 6 PM. Caipirinha. Happy Hour. You don’t need to visit Brazil to get tasty treats and the best caipirinhas in town. 2×1 all afternoon. No reservations required.

Seeking info on Ecuadorean citizenship for senior foreigners

Looking for plant rescue information

Good morning:

I have a multitude of reasonably healthy plants, various types on my terrace.

Many are infected with a sticky, white substance underneath leaves. It looks fungal but I have really no idea how it arrives or infects so many different plants.

The weather is so lousy here over long periods with cool/cold temps at night and altitude-drying plants out and then raining for such long periods. I am baffled. I do not know how to rid the plants of this nuisance.

Anyone know? Have experience with this as well? What to do about it.?

Thanks to anyone with ideas.

Nunkui store gallery closes the store in Cuenca

The Nunkui project, is a fair trade proposal that aims to generate local development alternatives in indigenous communities of the Ecuadorian Amazon. In this sense, approximately two years ago we opened our gallery store in the city of Cuenca. It has been a time of much learning, where we have met wonderful people, who have been part of the Nunkui project. To you, our dear clients and friends, we extend a deep appreciation.

With the Covid-19 pandemic, the situation has become very complicated for the store and the communities we work with, and as a project, we believe that right now, it is important to provide more local support to the communities.

September is just around the corner…

… and your Spanish lessons as well.

We cannot turn back time, so, don’t leave for new year whatever your resolution is: volunteer, arts, business, making new friends, trying Ecuadorian tamale, drinking hot chocolate while watching the city from Turi viewpoint, etc. in Ecuadorian Quechua-Spanish we would say: “chulla vida” which means “we have a single life”.

Let’s begin this new normal, more empathetic, more aware of the reality, more environmentally friendly (as much as we can) and above all more respectful of our fellow men.

And, if you are committed to acquiring decent Spanish in a decent time of practicing, discipline and patience, just leave me a message via email.

Do not put off till September what you can book today.

Customer Appreciation Sale at Bernan’s

Bernie and I decided that it’s time for a Customer Appreciation Sale giving you 15% off your entire order. We wanted to remind you just how much we do appreciate you.

This time our sale will be a little different. When we had sales in the past we would stock up “extra” so we would have plenty of items on hand to fill all of your orders. Well, because we carry so many different items (and not everyone wants the same thing) that would mean stacking jars all over our apartment and hoping we made the right choices. This time we came up with an idea that will be easier on us and for everyone that wants to, to get in on the savings.

For this sale you will need to email your order to us between now and August 10th. We will then see if we have everything to fill your order. If we have to make something, that will give us time and once your order is completely ready, I will let you know when you can either pick it up or when it can be delivered. That way we will only make what is needed.

“Special Order Items” are not included in this sale. Only the items on our product list Of course. We will be happy to extend our appreciation sale to anyone that just stops by but, there is no guarantee that we will have everything you want. It will be a busy 10 days for us so please bear with us during this time.

If you need a new product list, just let me know and I’ll be happy to email one to you.
As always, Thank you so much for your continued support.

The Hop Factory: beer and coffee delivery

Come to The Hop Factory this Thursday and Friday from 1:30 to 7:30 PM, for some great craft beer. We do home deliveries on Thursday from 8 AM to noon.

We are on east side of Cuenca, Calle del Himno y Bandera Nacional. We have darts and chess boards available to play, as well as outdoor seating.

Our available beers are: Bourbon Barrel (11.5%) $4, IPA (6%) $3, Stout (6%) $3, American Amber Ale (6%) $3, Pale Ale (5.5%) $3. We make a truly “old school” beer that is unfiltered and naturally carbonated.

Low cal/low carb beer: ($2.50)
Our Rowdy Rabbit is an all natural Light Blonde Ale that only has 84 calories and 5.8 carbohydrates but still has 4% abv. This slightly hazy beer is light in color/calories/carbohydrates but still has a Citrusy Tart flavor (15 IBU’s) that is created with not only our hops/grains but stands out because of our use of coriander from our friends @ Gramm’s Bulk Shop (thanks guys).

We are also the only place you can get Black Honey and Café Doña Julita brand coffees. Black Honey is our coffee liqueur made in Vilcabamba. Makes a great White Russian (16% abv $15/750ml bottle). The coffee we have available in both beans and ground. “Premium” is a medium-dark roast $4/400g, “Gourmet” is a medium/Columbian roast $5/400g and our “Honey” is a medium dark roast originally created just for our coffee liqueur $6/400g.

Please have all orders in by Wednesday to ensure on-time delivery. $18 minimum for free delivery under $18 we add $2.

Recommendation for Nestor Reinoso, transportation

I usually take the bus or van to GYE but occasionally – due to various circumstances – I call upon Nestor. He never lets me down, whether he or one of his drivers is doing the driving. This past Thursday night I had a midnight arrival to GYE and Nestor’s driver Brian was there to meet me. Brian speaks decent enough English though I wasn’t much in the mood for conversation, having been up for nearly 24 hours. His vehicles have always been clean and the drivers safe, always a serviceable seatbelt available, this trip being no exception. Had a quick trip over the mountains with very little traffic during those late-night hours and of course delivered right to my door, which is nice. Very convenient and a reasonable price for those times when I do not care to deal with the minivans or buses. So yes, I definitely give his service two thumbs up.

Recommendation for My Cuenca Nerd, David Jackson, tech support

I want to share a recommendation for David Jackson aka My Cuenca Nerd.

David overhauls my Firestick apps about once a year and helps with a bunch of those sorts of small, random, yet annoying other tech issues that pop up with phone, computer, etc. He is a pleasure to work with, does what he says he will, and is always there for me if an issue arises. We often solve things over text, for no charge.

Here is his byline in his own words:

Are you an expat living in Cuenca who relies on technology but feels frustrated or uncomfortable using it? Frustrated by difficulty with language barriers? Broken or unreliable equipment that you can’t get to work properly? Can’t get a technician who’s responsive, shows up on time and follows through? My Cuenca Nerd might be the perfect solution for you.

Municipal gardeners who trim grass near river and parks?

For some reason, the regular guys who have cut the grass at our little park above and near the steps to/from Common Ground Restaurant have skipped our little park the last 2 times they have cut the grass at the River and at Parque Molinero (3 blocks away). They did not do our small park. Does anyone know how to get in touch with them to see how we can get them to come back again?

Many residents nearby in Ed. Alemeda 1 & 2 and La Cuadra 1 and my building, El Rocio, walk their dogs there and it’s becoming a jungle again. The residents of Ed. Alameda kindly collected cash from the residents to pay someone to come out to cut it since it was so bad the first time.

I saw a man cutting grass nearby today and will be getting an estimate to cut it for us today, Friday. If anyone is interested in donating $2 to $5 to assist, it would be appreciated by all residents, nearby homeowners and just people who wish to have their children play in the park and those who simply walk daily through the park.

If you do wish to contribute you can anonymously or not, leave the funds with our Guard at Ed. El Rocio directly above Common Grounds.

And if you know who to contact to resume the City paid maintenance it would be greatly appreciated by many. My building administrator had no idea who to contact.
