Giovanni and Le Petit Jardin?

Does anyone know what the status of Le Petit Jardin is? Is it currently open for guests? I have made several calls; left a phone message and sent an email to Giovanni over the last 2+ weeks and have received no response. I’m wanting to make a reservation. I would appreciate any information anyone may have.

Starting a Go Fund Me Campaign

If anyone has done a successful “GoFundMe” here in Ecuador, please contact me.
The son of my housekeeper has developed a “Monster Tumor” in his facial cavity. It has already destroyed his sense of smell and is now attacking his optic nerve.

This 18-year-old boy is graduating high school as the number 1 student in all of Cuenca, and now his life is being threatened by this horrible tumor.

I have been trying to set up a crowd funding campaign through GoFundMe, but they do not list Ecuador as one of their countries. I don’t know what to do next.

I would so much appreciate any help you can give me on how to set this up. Time is of the essence as this tumor is growing out of control and will require a team of three surgeons to do the operation, and the first operation will cost over $30,000.

Collection of medication is today

Today is the collection of medication.

Hello Friends,

As you may know, I collect medication and medical supplies that you don’t use anymore, (even if they are expired, because they will be discharged in the right way), to give to the different nursing homes that are around town, and that are in need (more than ever), and to other places where these donations can be used. Sadly, due to the corona virus emergency, I was not able to make my yearly collection in 2020.

I’m reaching out now in need of your assistance in 2021. In addition to medications, we also collect gauze, alcohol, bandages, and any other medical supplies that you have, like crutches, walkers, canes, glasses, etc. We are also wanting masks gloves, and alcohol.

Please help our efforts by donating on June 25th, from 10 am – noon at Sunrise Café, on Calle Larga y Benigno Malo.

For more information you can contact me by phone at 099 174 4740 or, via email, at

Thank you, in advance.

In our talk “Listen to the Silence”, we will learn simple tools to apply them on a day-to-day basis when we face the “problems of life” and we even make ourselves ill by not knowing ourselves and knowing how our body, mind and spirit work.

NYC Jazz at the Jazz Society Café

“The Ba(n)d Plus” Saturday, June 26th
Treat yourself to a wonderful afternoon of great NYC jazz and great food
Featuring the Jim Gala Quartet with singer, Mariangel Blanco

“Cuenca is blessed to have such an artist as Jim Gala. I’ve played with some of the greats on both sides of the Atlantic, yet I’ve never heard such a transformative, unique jazz pianist as Jim Gala. Jim expresses fully the beauty, humanity and poignancy of the classic songs he chooses to play. He goes to a depth few musicians ever go. Simply put, he’s a true musical genius.” —Bill Scott, Broadway composer, singer, and lyricist.

“Jim Gala is one of my musical idols. He’s a real soul man. No one plays like him. His musical philosophy, sensibility, and taste are impeccable. He changed my life with his music. I actually quote him often and wrote about him in my book.” —J.R. Cain, Jazz historian

Free Language Exchange by YEES

A fun and relaxing environment to use your Spanish and English. Come and join us at Selina’s terrace (Calle Larga 7-93) every Saturday for a chance to practice with native English and Spanish speakers and meet new friends. This Exchange is basically a casual conversation where we switch languages every 30 minutes. This event is free, however, due to the pandemic, don’t forget to follow these directions:

– If the receptionist asks what you want, tell him/her that you’re a member of #YEES and there’s a language exchange at the terrace (Coffee Room) that you’re attending.
– Even though Selina’s terrace is an open space and they have all the biosecurity measures, the pandemic isn’t over yet so don’t forget to keep social distance.
– The conversation will be spontaneous as usual. The only rule is switching languages every 30 minutes. You decide which language goes first.

June 26th, from 2 to 4 PM, Free event, Calle Larga 7-93, Cuenca.

Looking for someone to scour our shower and re-seal the grout

It appears that when our shower was put in last year, the grout was not sealed. It absorbs water (changes color) and we have a horrible problem trying to keep it clean.
We are looking for recommendations/suggestions for a person/company that can come super scrub the grout (get rid of the mildew we can’t seem to get out) then when clean go around and thoroughly seal coat the grout.

The importance about your hair, nails, etc. C&C unisex hair design

Take advantage of our tremendous seasonal discounts, for Ladies and Gentlemen.
A lot of the same culprits that dry out your skin can also affect your hair, namely hot water and over-washing typically manifest through flaking or itching scalps. Spacing out the frequency of the washes can help because the more hot water you have touching your scalp, the more you’re going to dry it out. If you space out your washes to every other day or every couple of days (depending on your hair type), that’s going to help decrease some of the dryness you’re experiencing.” C&C has a small (team) who are certified professionals. It is important how your haircut improves even your emotional spot.

Conversational Spanish

Hello Friends,

Offering pre-intermediate Spanish conversational sessions twice a week for people who already know the language a little bit but want to reach the next level.

The sessions are at a restaurant, so yes you will have to buy at least a drink. But no Zoom, no Skype, no faulty internet-dependent sessions.

You will be speaking face to face to a group of human beings, reptilians, Martians or whoever/whatever* signs up first, and not on the computer through a screen. Neat.

The group will have max 4 people, plus me.

So, if you are interested write me an email at any time or call me after 4 PM.

So, wherever you are, take care.

PS. For those extraterrestrial entities somewhere on the Moon, on Mars or anywhere in the universe, write me an email because I don’t know if my cellphone has that kind of coverage out of Earth, but you can try anyway.

Recommendation for El Oasis Restaurant

What a memorable experience 7 friends of mine and I recently had as we went to celebrate my birthday at El Oasis. This 8-course gastronomic ceremony was indeed unforgettable. Mico Eagle Feather attended to every detail: the quality of the food and ingredients. artistic presentation of each dish, descriptions and explanations of the food and accompanying specialty drinks, unique serving ware. and a most inviting atmosphere.

His assistant Annie Lulu does the artistic presentations and with her experience as a chocolatier, she presented us with beautiful and delicious tasting chocolate. Both Eagle Feather and Annie showed us that they genuinely care about their guests and their experience. You will want to put this on your list of restaurants not to miss.

Recommendation for C&E Arte Visual, artists and woodwork

Quite some time ago, I spotted this wall design in one of the Hallmark “Garage Sale Mysteries” movies. I loved the design and wanted it replicated at some point.

I showed the photo to Edgar León at C&E Arte – Visual. He said he could replicate it. Edgar had already created a series of three Ecuadorian ethnic wood panels for us, so we were familiar with his precision and highly developed craft.

Today, Edgar and Cristina delivered and installed the piece. To say we are thrilled with the results would be an understatement. Edgar created a perfect match for the design in the movie photo I provided.

We cannot praise this couple enough for their workmanship and keeping us informed each step of the way with WhatsApp messages and photos of the progress.

I hope the photos show for others to see.
