If you live alone, suffer a fall and are unable to get to the door, a trusted friend needs to have a key to gain access in case of an emergency. Otherwise, 911 or concerned friends will need to break down the door. We expats need to connect with each other. As a retired registered nurse, I am continuing to learn the best ways to navigate Cuenca’s medical system and prepare for medical emergencies. As expats we need to think ahead and plan for the unexpected. Abrazos.

Paws with Hope is an animal rescue run by one person, Jay Dee, who is in desperate need of help to look after the dogs and cats in her care. The cost of housing, vetting and feeding the rescue animals is extremely high. She has not been making ends meet for a while and as of now she is completely out of funding with little necessities left. These dogs and cats were rescued to temporarily help them and find them homes.
Please donate if you can, or drop off a bag of dog or cat food, cat litter, used blankets and towels.
Hogar Esperanza will gladly receive the donations at the expat service center so next time you are shopping, please pick up a little extra pet food and drop it off.
Thank you so much.

Dear Cuenca Community
Shambhala Cuenca would like to invite you to meditate together from your home this
Sunday at 10:30 AM and any other time you feel stressed or depressed. There are many forms and methods of meditation – the form you choose doesn’t matter, however it’s a very good thing to remember our shared humanity as we sit quietly and become mindful for a period of time.
Online meditation sessions with Shambhala are available free. Contact us for specific links.

Hello expat community,
We have a new date available for our jungle tour. You can’t miss this great adventure with your family or friends. This is an organized tour for small groups, no more than 15 people. It is a 6 day / 5 night trip.
Here you can see a recommendation for our tour:
In our trip to the jungle, we combine visits to the Andes and Jungle. We will stay at Suchipakari Ecolodge in Misahualli and we will enjoy hiking in the rainforest, learn more about the Quichua culture, and navigate the waters of the beautiful Napo River. On our way to the jungle, we will visit Baños de Ambato and the Chimborazo volcano, on the way back to Cuenca.

About Jan: Considered by many to be a “World-Class” massage therapist, Jan Wallace has been performing massage therapy since her original licensing by the Oregon State Board of Health in 1983. She has studied almost every massage technique out there, and over the course of 30 years, blended the best-of-the best into her own massage style that’s an incredibly relaxing, therapeutic, invigorating, and an almost “spiritual” experience.
I would like to recommend the services of Daniel Mocha as a facilitator. He helped me through several difficult hurdles in renewing my driver’s license recently.
He can also help with the paperwork and running around town for your cedula or visa. Maybe more, I’m not sure.
He is very knowledgeable, personable, and an excellent driver.
He speaks and more importantly, understands English very well. But Spanish is his first language.

Father’s Day at the Jazz Society Café
Treat your Dad to an afternoon of great jazz and great food
Featuring the Jim Gala Jazz Quintet with singer Mariangel
Reviews: “Cuenca is blessed to have such an artist as Jim Gala. I’ve played with some of the greats on both sides of the Atlantic, yet I’ve never heard such a transformative, unique jazz pianist as Jim Gala. Simply put, he’s a true musical genius.” —Bill Scott, Broadway composer, singer, and lyricist.
“Jim Gala is one of my musical idols. He’s a real soul man. No one plays like him. His musical philosophy, sensibility, and taste are impeccable. He changed my life with his music. I actually quote him often and wrote about him in my book.” —J. Cain, Jazz Historian, jazz pianist
