Guayaquil Bank, arbitrary charges

Guayaquil Bank deducted me $2.71 (a kind of insurance but don´t know the name) every month without my permission. I already had more than $77 deducted when I found out. It didn’t continue to deduct the deductions after I complained last year, but the money deducted before has not been returned to me. I went to the bank several times and the staff said that it can be refunded, but so far there is no refund. Has anyone encountered such a situation before? And has any good suggestions to solve this irritating thing?

Thank you,

Where can I get a balance refund of Tranvia card in Cuenca?

I am going to leave from Cuenca and I want to cancel my Tranvia card. There is still a balance in my card. My card is a regular card. Does anyone know where to get a refund except for the bus terminal next to the Feria Libre? Can the card fee be refunded also?

Thank you,

It’s now been 5 weeks since I registered to get vaccinated. I am 73 years young. As of yet I haven’t been notified to get vaccinated. My question is does Ecuador even have any Covid 19 vaccines in the country? Seems strange that if they have the vaccine, that I haven’t received a date.
I guess my best bet is to return to the USA and get the vaccine there.

if somebody know useful real estate website of Quito?

I plan to move to Quito and I posted an advertisement that I am looking to rent an apartment, but no real estate agent contacted me, and I went to to see that there were not many suitable apartments. Apart from going directly to a favorite area in Quito to see the rental advertisement posted on the apartment outside, is there any other website or good real estate agent recommended? Thank you,

Thanks to you, many children will have diapers for months to come

This is enormous as it will keep our most vulnerable, our children, cleaner and healthier during this next surge in the pandemic. We appreciate the generosity shown over the last two weeks.

We also want to thank the business that sponsored this effort by providing space and incentives. What a wonderful business community we have. Thank you San Sebas Cafe, La Yunta, and Inca Bar, from the bottom of our hearts.

Our volunteers made it happen by manning the drop-off points. Thank you for your good cheer, you generosity with your time and your resources and all of the little things you did to make this work.

A special thank you to Pat Simmons and Lisa Harlan for spearheading this effort. They are the rock stars whose huge hearts and tireless efforts made this happen.

Finally we want to thank you, Cuenca. Below is a list of what your generosity provided:

Attorneys to explain current/future vaccine laws?

Are there any retired US or current Ecuadorian attorneys who could hold perhaps, a local meeting and could explain any current or future legislation concerning an obligation to take the vaccine here, in Ecuador, and the US too? Hey, throw in Canada, too. Nuremberg laws, perhaps?

Charge a few dollars, and have coffee or tea ready. Something simple, or do it online, if you’d like.
Do not explain the science of the vaccine, or any politics; please keep it germaine to the current and future laws coming down the pike. We will have a new Prez here soon. Who knows?

2 kittens abandoned in a field

I have two dogs already. My dog will eat the kittens. I’m keeping them separated until I can get the cats to someone who can help them. I only took the cats out of the field because they were there all day in the rain and were in shock. Does anyone have a home for these cute kittens, or is there a place like a vet or shelter that can take them immediately?

They are very young kittens; maybe a month or less old. They are light orange with long fluffy hair and bright blue eyes.

I have pictures. WhatsApp or email.

Young bonded tabbies for adoption

Two adorable female, one-year-old bonded tabbies are in need of a new home.

Both are spayed and have all their vaccines. They’ve always been inside, and have rarely seen anyone outside the home, so may be quite shy at first. They love to sit on laps, often together, and are quite cuddly. Expect they would be with others once they were acquainted.

Seven is large and very cuddly, likes to give nose kisses. Maze is tiny and shyer, doesn’t like to be petted on her back, but will roll over and let her belly be stroked after a few tail pets. Maze has a fluffy tail, white paws and large eyes. She likes to jump. Seven is a typical gray tabby with a fairly muscular build. Seven is overall more friendly and likes morning nose kisses, but both like to have lap naps. And Maze is oddly fond of belly rubs occasionally. They get along very well, sleep together, eat together out of the same bowl.

They will come with a large bag of their favorite food, litter box, flea treatments for possible future needs. They don’t have any fleas now and have been given the long-term treatment and the house is flea free. Also, a carrier and several toys. They prefer rubber bands though.

Beautiful puppy for adoption

This stunning doggie was rescued from the well-known “dumping ground” at Zhurucay Wasteland in the San Gerardo Zone. He was discovered two days ago in a confused and frightened state while running from one side to the other. This is typical behavior for an abandoned dog.

The rescuer suspects he is about 8 months old and probably not sterilized yet. He looks like a Labrador mix and has adapted well to the rescuers home environment. He is very friendly, socialized and has excellent manners.

If you’re interested in adoption and want to meet him, please contact me.

Introducing Cuenca Coffee Company

Introducing Cuenca Coffee Company. We offer 100% arabica gourmet flavored coffees.

Flavoring coffee is more of an art than a science. You have to start with the best flavoring oils made exclusively for flavoring coffee. Then you add coffee, roasted to perfection – not too light and not to dark. The result is an enhanced coffee taste with a note of whatever flavor was added to the coffee.

Cuenca Coffee Company uses 100% Arabica Coffee and has two flavors at the moment but we intend to add more – for now we offer French Vanilla and Hazelnut. The coffee comes in ground or whole bean and is available exclusively at The Cuenca Shop (King’s Smokehouse) and El Mundo Organico.
We will also deliver it for a small delivery fee. Call for pricing and delivery details.

Variant of covid19 is already in Cuenca; to take care of us

That the British or Brazilian variant of the coronavirus also circulates in Cuenca is not ruled out for a group of doctors who study the behavior of the virus through PCR tests to generate prevention measures.

An investigation carried out by the Catholic University of Cuenca, the Latino Clinic and the Bioncogen laboratory processes 11,053 PCR tests to determine this type of mutations and to know how the pandemic is progressing in the city.

The importance of the study is based on the analysis of the effectiveness of vaccination, since international studies show that, for example, the power of immunization decreases in certain brands with the British variant and drops to 10% in the South African variant, which, so far, it has not been detected in Ecuador.

Those most affected by the virus are people between the ages of 35 and 64, followed by those between the ages of 25 and 34. Researchers agree that family and social gatherings are the leading cause of infection.

I recommend using masks approved by the World Health Organization, the KN95 with a valve. Which allow you to breathe better, without fogging up your lenses, avoiding dizziness or removing it to breathe better.

The masks that I sell are imported from the USA, that is, they are not manufactured in Ecuador. The box of 20 masks comes fully sealed and plastered to ensure handling.

I am Andrés Guillermo, you can write to me at or call me at 099 647 2877 (WhatsApp) and I will come to your home at no additional cost to deliver your box of masks to protect your health and that of your family. Blessings

Recommendation for Best Ecuador Homes real estate

I recently hired Monica Gonzaga and her team at Best Ecuador Homes to help me find a new apartment, and am so glad that I did.

In about a week, we found a brand-new place in a fantastic location. Monica negotiated a great rent and terms, and used her own lease agreement that protects the tenant and is fair to the landlord.

Her company is a one-stop shop for expats, including real estate leasing and sales, property management, facilitator services, assistance with resident visas, and so much more.

Recommendation for Kolo Restaurant, breakfast and lunch cafe’

I don’t always eat breakfast but when I’m in the mood, I now think about Kolo for a tasty meal that usually covers me for lunch too.

Frank’s new place is a beautiful spot, in the Hotel La Vieja Mansion with lots of space and a magnificent and huge skylight.

I’m working my way through the menu that has classic as well as inventive items you won’t find elsewhere. For example the Scrambled eggs with chicken/apple sausage and sundried tomato pesto, is a favorite as well as the Breakfast Migas. The portions are substantial and you won’t walk away hungry.

They have a Mediterranean Scramble which is delightful, or you can “Make Your Own Omelet” with a grand variety of choice fillings. Or go Ecuadorian with Criollo, a wonderful Spanish style dish with eggs, ham, cheese, tigrillo, fruit fresh bread as well as a choice of coffee, tea or juice.

All the standards are there, classic American, French toast or pancakes. The Kolo hash is a hit as well as fresh fruit with granola and yogurt.

While you’re at it, I know you’ll want to check out the pastry, bread, and roll items and don’t miss the namesake signature Koloches, a round brioche type pastry filled with fresh homemade preserves.

How about lunch? Don’t get me started. I’ll leave that for another post. Needless to say, if you haven’t been yet, you should check it out. If you’ve been before, check out the recently added new menu items. You won’t be disappointed. Hope to see you there Amigos.
