Paying IESS monthly premium via JEP online

Question for the community: JEP wants an email address when setting up an electronic payment online. I have looked everywhere on the IESS website and there are no email addresses anywhere.

I prefer to set it up from JEP’s end rather than fill out the form from IESS and have them take the money out each month.

Has anyone set this up from JEP’s end?

Need a good home for my pets

I have two dogs, a small one a medium-size one and one cat. The dogs are 6 yrs. Old, the cat 4 yrs. old. They have all been neutered. They are: Chico, Gismo and Milo. They are really good around people and children. We are moving back to the States and cannot take them.

Diaper need impacts child abuse

“A lack of clean diapers affects a baby’s well-being, leading to an increased risk of infection and sickness for babies. But the connection of diapers to many other issues that impact the health and well-being of children and families goes much further. Diaper rash or discomfort also leads to excessive crying, which is the number one cause of child abuse.

“When you hand them that diaper, you see the weight lifted and the life come back to their eyes,.. When you are so focused on the lack of need for a child, you can’t focus on applying for jobs or filling out forms.” (St David’s Foundation. “The Impact of a Diaper: Innovating to Meet Increasing Diaper Need During A Pandemic.”)

You can help these families keep their children clean and healthy during this pandemic.

The greatest sizing needs are:
* extra grande (XG – 24 – 48 months)
* grande (12 – 24 months)

In kind donations will be accepted on April 16th and 17th at these locations:

La Yunta
San Senas Cafe
Inca Bar
Hearts of Gold

Monetary donations made be made at your convenience in any of the three following ways (please mention “diaper drive” if given the option to do so):

Free language exchange by YEES

A fun and relaxing environment to use your Spanish and English. Come and join us at Café Lirée (General Torres 8-20) every Saturday for a chance to practice with native English and Spanish speakers and meet new friends. This Exchange is basically a casual conversation where we switch languages every 30 minutes. This event is free. However, due to the pandemic, don’t forget to follow these directions:

– The exchange will be one on one, 2 people per table, to maintain social distance.
– The conversation will be spontaneous as usual. The only rule is switching languages every 30 minutes. You decide which language goes first.
– There are only 14 spots, so try to make it early.
– Café Lirée is not an “open cafeteria,” however they have all the biosecurity measures and excellent food.

April 10th, from noon to 2 PM, Free event, General Torres 8-20 y Mariscal Sucre, Cuenca.

Weldon Edwards:

As of 4-8-2021 The Guayaquil US Consulate added appointment dates for May, June, July

This morning, 4-8-21, I woke up early and secured a new earlier appointment date for a notarial appointment. I got May 7th. My only choice day before was yesterday was July 15th. Big Improvement. I think they realized they have a glitch in the system and added the dates due to not being able to cancel the other date if people wanted to opt out for any reason.

The system currently does not allow a person who wishes to cancel an appointment return access to complete the cancellation process. We were told to send in an email to cancel an appointment. So, this is great news for those who need an earlier date for an appointment for time sensitive notarization or other need.

I did look at yesterday’s (4-8-21) GP postings and did not see anything from the Consulate. Hopefully they will have one today, probably missed the 4 PM deadline yesterday, unless they have some special access. On another note, the Quito Embassy is essentially shut down for many if not all services except email maybe. The GYE Consulate is therefore your only option for appointments. So, I guess a lot of folks from northern Ecuador will be coming to GYE for consular Services as well. Also, they are not answering phones. All communications are via e-mail.

Prevention is cheaper than being cured of covid19

More cases of infected and deceased by COVID-19 are reported in the report of the new epidemiological week number 13, in Cuenca.

According to the report of the Technical Board, a high number of suspected cases of COVID-19 is registered, with an incidence of 12 per 10,000 inhabitants. While the incidence of confirmed cases went from 3.1 to 3.2 per 10,000 inhabitants.

The reckless behavior of citizens continues despite being in a state of exception.

I recommend using masks approved by the World Health Organization, the KN95 with a valve. Which allow you to breathe better, without fogging up your lenses, avoiding dizziness or removing it to breathe better.

The masks that I sell are imported from the USA, that is, they are not manufactured in Ecuador. The box of 20 masks comes fully sealed and plastered to ensure handling.

I am Andrés Guillermo, you can write to me at or call me at 099 647 2877 (WhatsApp) and I will come to your home at no additional cost to deliver your box of masks to protect your health and that of your family. Blessings

Do you like coffee with a high aroma and flavor?

This post is for you.

Arabica coffee is considered a much more select and refined grain than the rest. True coffee lovers always tend to choose this variety, rather than a more earthy and robust bean.

Problems with internet/phone/electricity/water/healthcare bills?

I am a law student at the University of Cuenca, I have finished all my courses and am writing my thesis, so almost-but-not-quite a lawyer. I can help you with any difficulties you are having with billing (facturas) for internet service, phone plans, electricity or water bills, coordination between hospitals and health insurance plans, etc.

I can take a look at your current internet or cell phone plan and see if there is a cheaper alternative. I am not a health insurance agent and do not represent insurance companies, but if you are having difficulties in communicating with a private insurance company and your agent isn’t being helpful, I can advocate on your behalf to get the health care benefits that you have paid for.

Internet and cell phone service providers periodically lower their monthly charges for internet packages, but existing customers must ask for the new, lower prices to receive them. Otherwise, the company will keep billing you at your originally contracted rate. Some Etapa water customers are suddenly receiving bills of $90 or more after months of paying the normal $12-$15.

Do you need an advocate to fight for you in the event of billing errors? Do you just need someone to call your internet provider to report outages or slow internet or to request that a repair team come to your house to check the connection? I am not a technology expert and do not troubleshoot internet problems, but can help you with dealing with the internet provider to report slow internet or internet outages.

Not long ago, I assisted a same sex couple to JEP who were having difficulty opening a joint bank account (the U.S. marriage certificate was not accepted). I accompanied them to the Registro Central to get their marriage registered in Ecuador, and we then returned to the bank to open the joint bank account. The constitutional law in Ecuador has changed but sometimes businesses and banks have not yet updated their procedures to reflect the new law. My law school classes covered LGBTI legal matters in Ecuador and I am happy to assist expats with LBGTI questions.

I charge $10 an hour, but if it takes more than two hours to resolve your problem, there is a discount of 20%, to $8 an hour (so four hours would be $32). If we need to travel in person to an office and a taxi is needed, that will be extra (but is usually minimal). Let me be your advocate.
