American Expat Financial News Journal – free webinars in April

Thought I’d share these links with everyone, these are free webinars in the coming weeks about US expat income taxation, investing, cryptocurrency, effects on Canadians of the new US income tax law changes, and renouncing US citizenship from the online American Expat Financial News Journal, a very useful source of information for all US expats.

I don’t think the embedded links are copying correctly, so at the end of this post there is a link to the article itself which has the links to the various webinar sources.

From the American Expat Financial News Journal website:

There is concern about the increase in Covid cases in Cuenca

Figures from the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) provided to monitor the pandemic show that, in Azuay, during the last seven days, the number of COVID-19 infections increased by 334 cases, of which 235 correspond to the city of Cuenca.

This increase is higher than the one presented during the previous week, in which a total of 272 new cases were registered; This means 62 fewer infections than between March 21 and 28, according to official figures provided by the Zonal Coordination 6 of Health.

Problems with internet/phone/electricity/water/healthcare bills?

I am a law student at the University of Cuenca, I have finished all my courses and am writing my thesis, so almost-but-not-quite a lawyer. I can help you with any difficulties you are having with billing (facturas) for internet service, phone plans, electricity or water bills, coordination between hospitals and health insurance plans, etc.

I can take a look at your current internet or cell phone plan and see if there is a cheaper alternative. I am not a health insurance agent and do not represent insurance companies, but if you are having difficulties in communicating with a private insurance company and your agent isn’t being helpful, I can advocate on your behalf to get the health care benefits that you have paid for.

The secret to having Spanish conversations with ease and confidence

One of the most common struggles I hear from expats in Latin America that are trying to learn Spanish to better integrate into their new home, is that you have a bad memory and can’t seem to hold on to the words you know…

So you find yourself having to learn them over and over again.

And basically, just a waste of time.

But I’m here to tell you that regardless of your age or whatever other excuse you’re telling yourself, 90% of the time what it actually comes down to is how you are learning.

The old way of thinking is still the most prominent amongst learners and teachers to this day…

Recommendation for Casa Micuna, restaurant

Spectacular views, great service and amazing food. I have had a lot of Ecuadorian food, but this place takes it to a whole new level and makes me want to use the word cuisine, not just food.

I absolutely loved the combination of flavors that just explode in your mouth with every bite.

There is something to be said about all of the things that are made in house:
Aji Sauce
Pickles (along with pickled bell peppers, radishes and onions)
Ginger Beer
Kimichi (sooooo good)

They have the best little pies as well; lime, tapioca, apple and chocolate. And they are always creating more.

They also offer a Bed & Breakfast with 2 adorable rooms, which they do not charge per night, you only pay for the food and drinks you consume during your stay.

Delicious coffee in taste and aroma in the morning?

Enjoying a good coffee is one of the most common traditions in most cultures around the world. Coffee can be found in countless varieties, flavors, and prices.

There are two varieties of coffee trees, Arabica and Robusta. Arabica-type coffee is considered Premium and produces beans with the best flavor. Arabica coffee beans require very special conditions to grow. The coffee tree is highly susceptible to diseases and pests.

Once Arabica coffee is grown under ideal conditions, it must be processed correctly to bring premium coffee to your cup. Manual harvesting is important to ensure that only the reddest and ripest coffee cherry trees are harvested and used in the process. After being harvested, the coffee beans must be dried in the sun before being roasted by the experts.

I am Andrés Guillermo, the only distributor in Cuenca and Azuay of 100% Arabian coffee, grown and harvested at 1,300 meters above sea level, in the province of Loja. I have roasted coffee in two presentations: ground and beans, 450-gram bags so that you can make your breakfast or afternoon coffee a delicious experience in your mouth. Delicious Fanesca – Friday and Saturday

Hi friends,

I offer you a Fanesca dish, for this week. A traditional and extremely delicious Ecuadorian pestle which is eaten this week. There are theories of its creation; two of them date back to Quito, where in a monastery a nun prepared it for the first time in search of prison food for the occasion; that it gave the name Juanita. In Colombia, they still call it in this way. Secondly, Uchucuta is another name it has. This comes from pre-Columbian times where it is believed that the indigenous people ate this preparation on the Pawkar Rayme festival, in gratitude for the blessings of the grain harvests on the occasion of the equinox. Later, the Spanish mixed Catholicism with their cultures where the symbolic meaning that it has now was given. Nowadays, a creamy soup characterized by twelve grams as the apostles, and the fish cod represent Jesus, are used to prepare it. I invite you to enjoy and spend a pleasant moment with your loved ones. The information is at the bottom of the message. We have it today and Saturday. You can ask here if you want to get it. I look forward to a blessed week for you.

Mathías Ríos,
Best Wishes.
