AstraZeneca Vaccine

AstraZeneca Vaccine suspended again in Berlin, Munich for under-60s amid blood clot reports.

Some other European countries remain hesitant about giving the AstraZeneca shot to older people. In Madrid, residents ages 60 to 65 started receiving the vaccine Tuesday ahead of those between the ages of 66 and 79 because Spanish authorities have not yet reviewed new data provided by AstraZeneca about how well it works in the older age group.

Spain is currently using the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines for people over 80 years old.

Spanish health authorities have said that they are hoping to speed up the rollout of vaccines with the arrival of the jab developed by the pharmaceutical company Janssen, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, which has also been approved for use in Europe and requires one shot only.

Walk with dogs and support Patan Animal Rescue

Spend a morning walking the dogs of Patan Animal Rescue.

From April on, every Wednesday morning we are partnering with Patan Animal Rescue for small group dog walks. You get to walk and pet the doggies, and hear all about the Patan Animal Rescue’s efforts to rescue, foster and successfully integrate them into their adopted families. Sponsors and supporters get to see and feel how these dogs are taken care of and learn more about the organization and their efforts to spay and neuter, vaccinate and feed their growing pack of over 50 dogs.

Dog walking:

Patan Animal Rescue is located in Nabón (an hour away from Cuenca)

Your contribution of $45 for this half day dog walking trip includes:

* door to door service
* a bottle of water and a snack.
* $15 goes towards the driver
* the rest goes to Patan Animal Rescue

One big bag of food costs $30 and feeds all the dogs for just 1 day.

Your support is highly appreciated and we hope you will join us on this wonderful experience and we promise you lots of tail wags, licks and attention from our rescues. On clear days, the views are spectacular!

Difficulty level: Easy – The walk is on a dirt road, not challenging and can be as long, or short as the group wants.

What to wear: Comfortable shoes and clothes, hat, sunscreen, and a light jacket in case it rains.

CoVid 19 measures: The safety of our staff and patrons is of utmost priority to us. To ensure this, masks are to be worn at all times and spots are limited to three people per trip. So, make sure to reserve your spot quickly.

Vision Statement, St. Christopher Episcopal Mission

In the future, St. Christopher’s Episcopal Mission (SCEM), in a collaborative successful partnership with Mision Sagrada Familia, will be a welcoming gathering place, a spiritual center in Cuenca and the surrounding neighborhood of a theologically humble group of believers worshipping God, meeting Jesus and demonstrating the practical love of Jesus to members, visitors and the poor.

Through action, SCEM will demonstrate what it means to be a follower of Jesus with a commitment to serve those in need by doing good works quietly, without fanfare or notice while fulfilling the question “what would Jesus do”?

SCEM will be a growing force for good in the community, known for outreach ministry.

SCEM, with the help of a Priest will offer Christian educational activities for spiritual growth through liturgical worship, group discussions, learning, and education filled with the Spirit of God’s love for us in our loving hearts and minds.

Visitors will experience Christ centered individuals within an inclusive, multi-cultural, bi-lingual, and multi-generational worshipping community of believers, with close bonds between members, committed to social justice while helping others.

SCEM offers an Episcopal liturgical worship service and experience to the community.

Azuay Community Theater auditions

Azuay Community Theater auditions – April 20 and 21

ACT needs three men and three women for its production of “How the Other Half Loves”.

Auditions will be held Tuesday April 10 at 10 AM, and Wednesday April 21 at 2 PM at the theater on Av. Ordonez Lasso just west of Hotel Oro Verde, and directly across the street from the Palermo Building.

The show is about love, marriage and the importance of laughter. It will open Friday June 18th, and run for two weekends.

An ensemble show, it will require every cast member to attend all rehearsals. They will be held 3 to 4 days a week beginning April 28 until the show opens in June. The schedule will be determined jointly by the director (Bob Fry) and the cast at the first read through of the script on April 26.

How the Other Half Loves
Cast of Characters

Frank Foster – Executive type. Runs his company with efficiency, but when it comes to his home life, he’s the stereotypical “clueless husband”, unaware that his wife is carrying on with one of his employees. He accepts her lame excuses about where she spends her evenings. The “light bulb” finally comes on in the last scene.

Fiona Foster – Frank’s wife. Elegant, sophisticated, smart dresser. She cleverly hides her extramarital activities from her clueless husband (see: Foster, Frank; above).

Bob Phillips – Works in Frank’s office. Carrying on with Fiona, he implicates William (below) to cover his tracks. Thoroughly fed up with his home life and his sloppy wife…

Theresa Phillips – Polar opposite of Fiona, slovenly, disorganized, overwhelmed wife, and mother of baby Benjamin. While she neglects the housework, she writes letters to the editor of the Village Voice, but never gets them published. Mostly seen in her bathrobe.

William Detweiler – Accountant in Frank’s office. Nerdy, may wear black rimmed glasses. Totally innocent of Bob’s alibi involving him. Winds up slugging Bob who he thinks is having an affair with…

Mary Detweiler – William’s wife. Nervous, nail biter. Called “mousy Mary” by Bob. By Act 2, she becomes more assertive.

Tuesday, April 20, at 10 AM and Wednesday, April 21, at 2 PM free. Av. Ordonez Lasso just west of Hotel Oro Verde across from Palermo Building, Cuenca.

Testimonials:

“I highly recommend you experiencing a massage with Jan Wallace, an excellent masseuse. I cannot give her enough accolades. Being the physically active woman that I am, I have had many massages in my lifetime and she easily ranks in the top 1%. No kidding. Give her a try. You’ll be so happy you did.” Eve Donald, Cuenca cuencabutterfly@yahoo.com

“Jan gave me a fantastic massage. Her apartment is easy to find and the massage room is very spa-like. She’s easy to communicate with and makes sure you’re comfortable at all times. I highly recommend her.” Sandy Brown, Cuenca sandynbrown535@yahoo.com

“I had a great massage experience with Jan. She listens to your needs and pressure preference. The atmosphere is quiet, comfortable and relaxing. She is conveniently located. I would highly recommend a massage from Jan.” Adrien Winger, Cuenca gatawinger@gmail.com

“I had overstressed a muscle in my back last week and was in a lot of pain. Jan lives in the same building as I do so I called her and she was able to fit me into her schedule. After 90 minutes with Jan, the pain was gone! I was hoping simply for the pain to lessen, but it was totally gone. Needless to say, I think she is great and highly recommend her!” Linda Chase, Cuenca

“I had three or four massages with Jan while I was in Cuenca a few months ago, just after she opened. I would second the comment above about having had many massages in my lifetime and the fact that Jan is in the top 1%. I’m a retired medial professional and can’t wait for my next visit with Jan.
