Vision statement
St. Christopher Episcopal Mission

In the future, St. Christopher’s Episcopal Mission (SCEM), in a collaborative successful partnership with Mision Sagrada Familia, will be a welcoming gathering place, a spiritual center in Cuenca and the surrounding neighborhood of a theologically humble group of believers worshipping God, meeting Jesus and demonstrating the practical love of Jesus to members, visitors and the poor.

Through action, SCEM will demonstrate what it means to be a follower of Jesus with a commitment to serve those in need by doing good works quietly, without fanfare or notice while fulfilling the question “what would Jesus do”?

SCEM will be a growing force for good in the community, known for outreach ministry.

SCEM, with the help of a Priest will offer Christian educational activities for spiritual growth through liturgical worship, group discussions, learning, and education filled with the Spirit of God’s love for us in our loving hearts and minds.

Visitors will experience Christ centered individuals within an inclusive, multi-cultural, bi-lingual, and multi-generational worshipping community of believers, with close bonds between members, committed to social justice while helping others.

SCEM offers an Episcopal liturgical worship service and experience to the community.

Shipping options to USA

GringoPost readers, I have many large framed pictures and fragile ornaments that I want to get to the USA. They are too large to fit into suitcases plus I’m limited in the number of suitcases I’m permitted.

If you know of any business, individual, or service that can help me ship these items, I’d really appreciate it. These pieces mean a great deal to me.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks,

Debs

Mule/carrier service from USA to major cities in Ecuador

Hi Expat Community, I’m offering a new mule/courier service from USA, to major cities in Ecuador, like Cuenca, Salinas, Manta, Quito, Guayaquil, etc. via packaged courier. Could be clothes, shoes, sneakers, lamps, spices, vitamins, kitchenware, pots and pans, art supplies, etc. Or anything Legal. Please do not request anything illegal like guns or drugs. Unfortunately, no cell phones. Used laptops are OK.

This is how it works: you tell me what you need and I buy it after you deposit in my account or you buy it online and ship it to my address here in New Jersey. I’m a prime member on Amazon, but you can buy anywhere like Macy’s, Best Buy, Home Depot, Target, etc. Once it gets here you pay for the shipping and it will get to your city in Ecuador within 12 – 16 days for you to pick up. FYI in my locality there’s no tax on shoes and clothes, everything else if I buy in person, tax is only 3.5%. If you or I buy online, tax is 7%. I will send you a receipt.

To give you an example I just bought a house in Salinas and Cuenca and furnished my 2 homes with sheets, towels, smart faucets, smart front door locks, kitchenware, LED lamps. Any tech that you may not find or, is too expensive in Ecuador, I’ll ship it to you. I also helped my friends and collaborators with this offer for the past 5 years and I decided to help the Expat community as well.

If interested please email me or WhatsApp or text me. I’ll answer any questions or concerns regarding price, payment or any other questions you might have. You have many choices of payment in Ecuador via transfer or teller, to my account in banco del Pichincha or banco del Austro. In the US via deposit or transfer to my Chase checking account (You must have a Chase account to deposit cash FYI) thru Zelle, PayPal, Venmo. I will need your full name, your address in Ecuador your cell # and your Cedula #. The Ecuadorian customs requires this info, when your package arrives to your city. The shipping company will text you to retrieve it. Quick reply and tracking of your goods.

Now the most Important Issue you may have? Why should I buy it, ship it to his home and I’ll never see him again or won’t reply? I truly understand the skepticism and distrust, I’m here to help you, I’ve been here for almost 45 years. I own my home and rental properties here in NY/NJ and Florida as well as in Ecuador, I’m also about to retire back home in the next 2 years and I understand when I get down there with my wife it’ll be a bit different and would hate to travel back just to get some new tech or whatever every time if I can’t find in Ecuador.

With that said, I can only say that you can trust me. I’ve learned the culture of honesty, punctuality, respect to others that this great country has taught me, Thanks for your time.

Car purchase, registration, licenses and paperwork

Hello everyone, Are you tired of all the long processes, lines and hassle when buying a car, registering it every year, getting or renewing a license?

I have been doing it for the last 15 years. 15 years of experience helping you go through this process smoothly. I can either handle the whole process for you, so you don’t have to leave your house, or if you prefer, I can do the process with you, so you can learn to do it on your own in the future.

I will also handle this process with you until everything gets completed. While others might just leave you hanging without finishing the job. I have had so many clients that need my help because other people they hired don’t do everything correctly or thoroughly, causing them fines and more problems.

Citizenship test and Spanish/English study material

With this program you will…
… have simulation tests as well as simulations interviews to make you ready for taking Ecuadorian citizenship real test.
… get lots of practice with knowledgeable Ecuadorian teachers who use our study booklet (in Spanish and/or English), 300 flashcards and much more.
… get to know enough Ecuadorian history (flag, coat of arms and National Anthem) to pass the test.
… enjoy and learn the most complete and updated information on test for Ecuadorian citizenship in a meaningful way.

– We’ll take you to accurate Spanish level for taking real test.
– Your Spanish language skills (reading, listening, speaking and writing) will be enhanced in record time.
– Take the morning session (two hours) or the afternoon session (two hours). Or just take the hours you need based on your knowledge of Spanish, your availability and the date of your test.
– Classes are given twice, three times a week or every day, Monday thru Friday.
– You can take this program for four weeks or for four months. It is up to you.
– This program is exclusively prepared to meet your needs and expectations.

Recommendations from participants:

“Thanks to attending the language school “CCNations, Escuela de Idiomas” I was able to pass the Ecuador citizenship written and interview exams, and will soon become a naturalized citizen. With their homework materials and instructional classes, my level of Spanish increased to where I could study, learn, and pass these essential subjects: the history of the tri-color Flag (“la bandera”); the Coat-of-Arms Shield (“el escudo”); the National Anthem (“himno nacional”); the important battles, persons and events for gaining Independence; and the primary Presidents of Ecuador. These study materials include bilingual booklets and guides, flash cards, simulation tests (from the official examinations), and multiple practice sessions.

Classes can be scheduled on flexible hours for individual sessions, or with small groups of other students. Additionally, this private 18-year language school can also help applicants to pass the examinations to obtain a drivers’ license (“Licencia de Conducir”). This is one of the top language schools I have ever attended!”

Recommended by Bartley

“My success in passing the test on my first attempt was primarily due to CCNations, their time, efforts and patience in guiding me towards success. I really couldn’t have done so well without them. For this reason, I highly recommend this school to anyone who needs help with Spanish in any capacity.”

Lynn

You want to study by yourself? No problem. Now, you can buy all our material…

1. A study booklet (in Spanish and/or in English),
2. Flashcards of Ecuadorian national symbols.
3. Flashcards of important people and dates, and some other information.
4. 10 20-question-practice tests with answer key.
5. Audio of 17 interview questions (male and female voices).
Contact us today and find out more about how to enroll in our citizenship program or how to get our material.

Delicious coffee in taste and aroma in the morning?

Enjoying a good coffee is one of the most common traditions in most cultures around the world. Coffee can be found in countless varieties, flavors, and prices.

There are two varieties of coffee trees, Arabica and Robusta. Arabica-type coffee is considered Premium and produces beans with the best flavor. Arabica coffee beans require very special conditions to grow. The coffee tree is highly susceptible to diseases and pests.

Once Arabica coffee is grown under ideal conditions, it must be processed correctly to bring premium coffee to your cup. Manual harvesting is important to ensure that only the reddest and ripest coffee cherry trees are harvested and used in the process. After being harvested, the coffee beans must be dried in the sun before being roasted by the experts.

I’m Andrés Guillermo, I take it to your home at no additional cost, I sell it in promotions of two or three bags at an incredible price. Do not miss out on the opportunity to taste a coffee harvested at 1300 meters above sea level, contact me on WhatsApp 099 647 2877 or call me, it will be a pleasure to serve you at home at no additional cost.

I am Andrés Guillermo, the only distributor in Cuenca and Azuay of 100% Arabian coffee, grown and harvested at 1,300 meters above sea level, in the province of Zaruma. I have roasted coffee in two presentations: ground and beans, 450-gram bags so that you can make your breakfast or afternoon coffee a delicious experience in your mouth. Covid cases double in Cuenca waiting for more vaccines

The hospital of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS) in Cuenca, started the week with a full house in its beds for critical coronavirus patients, something similar happens in the Regional Hospital that sees an increase in cases in Cuenca.

The ICU beds of the Vicente Corral Moscoso hospital show an occupancy of 90% of its beds and in the private sector the demand for beds is more than 60%, which worries doctors and authorities.

Researcher Bernardo Vega indicates that in the last week 364 new cases of coronavirus were registered in Azuay, which gives an average of 52 per day, and 13 deaths were registered from the disease, this is an average of two deaths a day.

In his analysis, he reports an “acceleration in the number of cases of 25% in relation to the previous week and seven more deaths on average.”

Despite medical advice and the insistence of the authorities, in Cuenca you can still see small crowds in the Historic Center and people without wearing a mask in public spaces, which can lead to an increase in infections.

The problem is that Ecuadorians do not make good use of the mask or use non-approved masks. They care more about what a good mask costs than their own health. According to the World Health Organization, KN95 filter masks are still the most suitable to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

I am Andrés Guillermo, distributor in Cuenca and Azuay of KN95 masks with filter, made in the USA. These masks are not the ones sold in Shopping Centers, they are masks with sanitary registration, laminated and with high protection. Its use is comfortable, it avoids dizziness, headaches, fogging of lenses or glasses. They are lightweight and are placed behind the ears, but above all 100% safe and reliable. I sell them by unit or box of 20 masks. Contact me at 0996472877, WhatsApp or call me.

Recommendation for Cuenca Muesli, manufacturer of muesli

I am fairly certain that you have not had an in-depth conversation about protein bars lately, if ever, unless you are an athlete or use them for snacks. Also, you probably don’t give much thought about them unless one falls out of the sky and hits you on the top of your head. And, if that happened, you’d probably rub your head, look up into the sky, look down at the protein bar and go about your business. You might have even said “ouch” or “WTF”. But, for the most part, it wouldn’t make a noticeable change in your life.

I am a retired athlete, and protein bars played a large part in my nutritional life at one time. I ate them all the time, and I had an opinion about most of them. My opinion was, they tasted like cardboard and were hard to chew. Frankly, thinking back, I don’t know why I ate them at all, other than “it was the thing to do.” Plus, eating those bars prevented me from skipping meals and gave me this sense of eating healthy, even if it wasn’t true. To say there are any fond memories involving eating protein bars would be an outright lie.

Fast forward to yesterday and a trip to El Mundo Orgánico. I was hungry when I arrived, and I noticed a basket of Cuenca Muesli protein bars sitting on their check-out counter. I glanced at them, but I didn’t give them a second thought until my stomach started to growl like a cranky bear that was awoken prematurely from hibernation. So, I grabbed one (Choco Banana flavored), ripped it open and began to eat it.

My first reaction was euphoric— surely this was not a protein bar I was eating, even though it said it contained 14.87 grams of protein right on the label. I am not sure what all the ingredients contained in the bar are, but there are oats, pumpkin seeds, linseed, sesame seeds and a bunch of other things that when combined, produce a flavor profile that transcends words, or at least any words I have in my vocabulary. To say this protein bar is delicious is an understatement, tantamount to saying ambrosia is merely food. In fact, the one I ate was so good, I bought five more.

So, if you are looking for a tasty snack that has some positive health benefits, grab a Cuenca Muesli Protein Bar from El Mundo Orgánico. You will be pleasantly surprised and may even find yourself talking openly about them like I am.

Recommendation for El Asador, fast food restaurant

Most amazing chicken sandwich… ever! This is not an ad or any kind if promo.
It is simply an unsolicited declaration of incredulity: I think have just had the best sandwich of my life.

The chicken itself is organic, totally fresh, tender and crazy tasty. The portion was impressive, too. Then there was super fresh tomato, green lettuce, and smoked bacon wrapped in a fresh bun and accompanied by four remarkable sauces.

Jaffe – not a big fan of fried food, white bread buns or pretty much anything about my lunch choice – took and bite after which I was forced to repeatedly wrest my sandwich from her hands – or risk losing the entire thing – as she exclaimed: “Wow (munch)! This really IS… (munch) amazingly (munch) good!”

El Asador is the name. The place is family run, spotless and the vibe super friendly. Prices are ridiculously fair for all you get. There is an upstairs dining room, but the trick is to grab your food (they pack it into a super sturdy take out box ) and picnic right there on a grassy bank on the Tomebamba, ten steps away. Make sure to pick up some napkins. You are going to need them.

At the river, corner of Tres de Noviembre and Los Alamos facing Las Americas.

Recommendation for Mateo Salazar, annual auto matriculation

Mateo Salazar has been doing my annual auto matriculations for 7 years. He has always been prompt at responding to my emails, prompt at all appointments, and good at following up. He is knowledgeable about what documents are needed so one trip is all that is needed to get the job done. His fee is quite reasonable. Mateo has earned my business and friendship, year after year.

Recommendation for Daniela Cordero with BMI insurance, Insurance company in Ecuador

I was with BMI for about 4 months when out of the blue was hit with a vertebrae disc infection. I live in a small town on the coast of Ecuador. I called my agent Daniela with BMI explained what was happening (terrible pain) that local pharmacy drugs couldn’t touch. She recommended I go to Guayaquil about 3 hrs. away to the private hospital Omni. After a long taxi ride there all I had to do was show my Cedula and BMI card at the emergency room. With CAT scans, MRI’s, IV antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, morphine, etc. 10 days later I was checked out.

I had a huge private room, 3 meals a day with great food. Total cost was a little over $7000. BMI covered $4800. Daniela was fantastic. She called me regularly to see how I was doing and took care of everything. I would definitely recommend having insurance. I would also highly recommend Daniela Cordero for her professionalism and kindness, and BMI insurance for its cost and great service.

Recommendation for Sunday Brunch Cuenca, home food delivery

We ordered for the first time from Sunday Brunch after seeing their ads on GringoPost. The cinnamon rolls are the best I’ve ever had. Last night we ate the cornbread with our beans and onions – perfect combination. But the very best item we have tried so far is the black bean veggie burger. We have tried many over the years from restaurants in Cuenca, and most taste just like canned beans made into a patty. Sunday Brunch makes them with lots of seasoning and vegetables. They are wonderful; especially on their wheat rolls. Can’t wait to try the lasagna we also bought.

Recommendation for Christian Cordero, locksmith

Christian came to our home yesterday to change our front door lock. It is a very old, but nice, fixture. It had to be taken apart, oiled and a major part replaced. Christian checked that it was working perfectly, and that all five of the keys worked from the inside and out. He was very thorough and very reasonably priced.

Recommendation for Jungle Tour – Expediciones Appullacta, tour and travel

Wow, we had such a good time. There was quite a lot to see on this tour. I also loved the fact that it was a small group. Sebastian, our guide was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable about everything on the tour as well as answering other questions we had about Ecuador. Edgar, our driver, paid very close attention to the road and made us feel very safe in his care. He was very attentive to the vehicle and made certain it was cleaned for us each morning before travel.

I enjoyed all of the activities included in the tour from the hiking, waterfalls, the swing and treehouse at the End of the World, canoeing on the Napo River, Misahualli (monkey town), indigenous communities and especially the chocolate demonstration.

Each of the accommodations and food was of good quality and I found them all to be clean and comfortable with very accommodating staff.

One thing I would recommend is that you be in good physical condition for this tour, as there are many areas in the jungle hikes that were very muddy and slippery along with several steep steps.

Sadly I am not able to comment on the Chimborazo portion of this tour as the day we went there was an indigenous demonstration and we were not permitted to enter. However, we did find another activity to fill the time with.

Making the arrangements to book the tour with Maritza was simple and easy. She took care of all the arrangements including the appointment for our Covid tests prior to departure.

This was an amazing tour and gave us a way to safely see a side of Ecuador that we would not have otherwise been able to see.

Recommendation for Cuenca Muesli, tasty food delivery

If you like healthy granola, robust bread, or delicious cupcakes, look no further than Cuenca Muesli.

I have been ordering from this small family startup business for several weeks and am delighted with their products.

The granola is made from 11 natural, healthy ingredients. It tastes good and goes down easily. It’s not cheap but is well worth it.

There are several varieties of bread and they are dramatically better than the standard Cuenca fare.

There are also several varieties of cupcakes, and they are moist and delicious. I think they will be raising the price once they realize how good they are.

I have no affiliation with them other than as a happy customer.

They deliver anywhere in Cuenca for the standard delivery charges and have been very accommodating about timing.

So give your taste buds a treat while helping a family business cope with the pandemic.

Recommendation for Victor Ojeda, facilitator

Victor Ojeda has helped my wife and I negotiate our way through numerous Ecuadorean mazes. Most recently, he steered my wife Linda through the process needed to get a local driver’s license. From personally translating her college transcripts (you need to prove you have a high school education or better), to walking her through updating her cedilla to reflect her education, to steering her through agility and driving tests, to arranging for the appointments and financial deposits for the final written test, he was personable, patient, and effective. In fact, when we inadvertently lost key paperwork a week before the final test, he took Lina in hand, and recreated the needed tests in 48 hours so she wouldn’t miss her final exam date.

Whether it’s getting a driver’s license, getting the senior discount on your real estate taxes, or just negotiating the vagaries of our new homeland, Victor is your guy.
