Please help name the kitties

Not long ago we had to put to sleep, Dash and Lilly, our 13-year-old brother and sister Balinese cats. Nothing was the same without them in the house.

But a little over a week ago we saw Jo’s post for Mama and Baby cats from Patan up for adoption. They now own the house and bring us great joy. However, we have not yet found the perfect names for them.

Attached are photos. Mama is a 1.5 year old mostly Siamese purr factory. Three to four month old
Baby has to be part Tortti with the black and brown coat, and her eyes seem to go from green to burnt yellow.

We want them to have great names and Laverne and Shirley just does not work. Please send your suggestions. They deserve special names. Thanks in advance for your help.

Stolen musical equipment, vocal effects pedal and microphone

My TC Helicon Voicetone effects pedal, along with my Sennheiser (black) microphone, and about 5 music cables, were stolen from my car on Saturday night; my car was broken into. If you happen to see these items being sold used at a music store, or anywhere else, please let me know.

The vocal effects pedal is not available for purchase here, so if you see it, it’s almost certainly mine. I bought this 15+ years ago, along with the microphone, in the US It’s a sad loss for me. I don’t have much hope of recovering these items, but thought I’d post this just in case.

You can see video footage of my car being broken into Sat night on Colonol Talbot y Mariscal Sucre, if you go to my facebook page. – Hayley Marsden-Kroll

I’ll post pictures of the items here.

Ecuador Trips from Cuenca – Saraguro-Loja Province

Ecuador Trips from Cuenca

Saraguro Thursday March 25th 8 AM to 7 PM aprox.

Spaces limited. We require 5 people minimum.
Can also create private trips for family and friends.

Have a great month. Stay safe.

One of the largest cantons in the province of Loja, has been able to stand out over time, thanks to the hard work and commitment of its inhabitants, who daily rescue the customs and traditions, which have been passed down from generation to generation.

Hope you can join us on this incredible trip to explore, discover and learn about one of Ecuador’s indigenous ethnic groups “Saragureños”…

Let’s give a hand to helping reactivate rural tourism in these communities.

Once we arrive our native guide Livia will be sharing with us her knowledge, traditions and culture the entire day…
Come and explore. We will be visting 3 Communities.
We will be taking 25 saplings of native species of trees to reforest in these communities, contributing to sustainable development.

Don Fransico at the Community of Tuncarta:
The icon of the Saraguro (Loja) people is their hat, a distinctive of cultural identity, which completes their clothing. This accessory is made with lamb wool and handcrafted, with ancient techniques and knowledge. The hat is white on its surface and on the inner brim it carries Saraguro people (similar to those of cows), it is rigid and its approximate weight is three pounds. Its preparation takes three days. The quality will depend on the raw material.

Textiles- Community of Ñamarin:
The Ñamarin community is one of the oldest in Saraguro. Its name Ñamarin means “it is going away” and indicates the proximity to some sacred site. The inhabitants believe that this sacred place refers to El Baño del Inka. This place is made up of a 60m high waterfall and adjoining caves. Since ancient times, many legends of this place have been told. The Community of Ñamarín preserves the indigenous traditions and, like the other communities, has maintained its Kichwa language, its clothing and its own agriculture. However, if Ñamarín stands out for something, it is because of the ability of its artisans to make handicrafts with sheep’s wool using the technique of weaving in makana or backstrap loom. Thus there are several family textile workshops where they transform wool into blankets, scarves, scarves, ponchos, bags, girdles, cushions and much more.

Medicinal Huerta-plants Community of Illincho” Centro Cultural Inti Wasi”
We will be spending time with Taita Luis who along with his family be sharing with us there knowledge of Ancestral Wisdom….
Once we arrive we will have a welcome beverage a infusion of plants with medicinal properties prepared Taita Luis wife….. Lunch will be here at Inti Wasi (will forward menu options plus if anyone has any diet restrictions)…..afterwards we will be having a Ancestral Ritual- Ceremony to rejuvenate your for those who like optional a cleansing of your energies –vibes…

Fundacion Grace

Helping someone you don’t know be successful, will be your greatest success.

As a volunteer for Grace since last year, first from the States and now in Cuenca, I have found that not only do I find personal success and satisfaction, but I have also seen firsthand that the people who receive the help benefit greatly.

Grace, Give Refugees a Chance. first opened its doors in 2019 and in recent months has been providing free health care to 120 migrants and refugees per month. Recently, the doors of Grace closed after inspectors provided a new list of requirements for Grace to obtain their final licenses from the city. In order to complete the required work to re-open, Grace needs $5,500 in donations in order to purchase supplies and have the work completed. New walls, plumbed sinks and lighting is required.

Please go to our GoFundme page to make a donation.

Although the GoFundMe page highlights the help for Venezuelans, Grace currently helps all migrants and others in need of medical services. With your help we will be able to open our doors soon and start providing health care services to the most needy.

We have a list of needed construction materials if you would prefer to make an in-kind donation. To obtain a list please email:

Grace also is need of people who have skills in construction, plumbing, wiring, and carpentry. Please email us if you are able to donate your time to help with our remodeling.

Recommendation for who likes sweet buns? Bakery/restaurant

I am…and when I stepped into KOLO and got a whiff of the freshly baked cinnamon rolls, my mouth began to water at the temptation. Should I indulge in this goodie or should I try the kolaches, the inspiration for the bakery? The kolos won and my taste buds did a happy dance.

Soft, fresh, melt in your mouth gooeyness that was *almost* better than something I don’t get anymore! It’s a fine substitute in moderation.

And if the aroma of the baked goods doesn’t grab you, check out the menu. This is a serious twist on comfort food with a high-end twist. No mamby-pamby blandness here; the balance of seasonings combined with unusual pairings will explode in your mouth. Ever have that perfect combination of bites? A little of the chicken chili with the cornbread, egg, and salsa together on the fork savored so much you don’t want another bite or fear it won’t match the perfection it already has? But, you take more and it does create more pleasure?

This is food you enjoy with all your senses. And shouldn’t it be all that?

So go, for breakfast or lunch or a cup of java and a kolache. Frank is the proprietor and the host with the most. The ambiance, menu, and his company make KOLO an all-around winner.

Biosecurity measures and social distancing is strictly adhered to for your safety and comfort.

Recommendation for María Teresa, learn Spanish via Zoom

For anyone looking to learn Spanish, I want to highly recommend Maria Teresa Ramon Giacometti. I’m a professor from the United States, and I’ve really enjoyed working 1 on 1 with Maria Teresa via zoom for the last couple of months since moving to Quito.

Her prices are very reasonable. She is a wonderful young woman who speaks Spanish, English and Italian fluently. She is well qualified professional teacher and journalist. We at Goshen College consistently contract with her for our study abroad students when they come to Ecuador each year.

If you are interested, I’m sure you could arrange a full course with her or if you are just looking for conversation practice, I’d bet she would be open to that. She is looking for more students at the moment, so I thought I’d reach out to our community here. Feel free to send her a message on WhatsApp.
