Recommendation for Kolo, restaurant and bakery

Many here in Cuenca know Frank Gonzalez from his outgoing personality and great service at another popular Gringo restaurant on Calle Larga.

Frank opened his own comfort food restaurant last week in the charming Hotel Mansion Vieja. What a happy surprise to discover another superior option for breakfast and lunch (creative breakfast menu all day) featuring classics like shepherd’s pie, chicken pot pie, huge juicy hamburgers, a terrific beef Wellington, an authentic Cuban sandwich, delicious daily soups plus tasty salads.

I have eaten at Kolo 3 times since it opened and tried all the dishes I mentioned with my friends… and the food is excellent – at very reasonable prices. We will be back to eat our way through the rest of the menu over the next few weeks.

The restaurant features its own bakery which produces a variety of fresh breads which are served with meals plus outstanding pastries. Bakery items are all available to take home too. Do not miss the enormous, iced cinnamon buns.

The setting on the second floor of the classic Cuenca hotel is large, airy and filled with the natural light which completes a very enjoyable dining experience.

4 stars from this gringo.

Frank Gonzalez is personally contactable by Facebook Messenger. I expect he will start publicizing other ways to contact the restaurant soon.
