Scouting trip to Ecuador

Hi,

I am planning a scouting trip to Ecuador in the Fall checking out various areas of Ecuador that I might possibly want to move to. I do not speak any Spanish, would love to rent first to set up a base camp in an area with many expats in order to develop friendships and to feel safe.

I am a single female with a very large black Goldendoodle. Is it difficult to bring a dog into Ecuador? Is there an area of Ecuador that would be the best for a base camp?

I have no intention of ever driving there so public transportation is key as are safe neighborhoods. Shopping, restaurants, the arts and good healthcare would be great. I am not a fan of condos/close living. I would love a small, 2 bedroom home to rent with a good size yard for the dog.

If anyone can help please respond on the user forum and thank you.

Hoping to raise funds for starving Ecuadorians in Ricaute

I know some people in Ricaute I regularly give money to so they can eat, as there is massive unemployment there and they cannot find work in Cuenca. But there are many other families I cannot afford to feed. Some have committed suicide, which breaks my heart. I will later do a Go Fund Me, but first would like to see if you would prefer to donate by paypal, as they don’t take any money out.

My paypal account is livefoodfactor@yahoo.com

Please mark “RICAUTE on the note, or FOOD FOR STARVING PEOPLE

Thank you!

Update on move for Paws with Hope

Hello Cuenca friends and friends of Paws with Hope. We have good news. Thanks to your generosity we were able to secure the location we are moving to. About a month ago the owner of the house we recently rented sold the house without letting us know the house was for sale. So this is a move we were not by any means prepared for. The bad news is that we need to move by March 15th and still need the funds for the move and to secure the fence for the dogs. Please consider helping us. Currently we are responsible for 9 dogs and 3 cats.

We appreciate your kindness. PayPal Pawswithhopecuenca@yahoo.com

Recommendation for Restaurant Kolibri

If you’re seeking alternative breakfast or dining experiences please give Kilibri a try located inside the very historic and beautiful Boutique Hotel Carvallo. The Hotel and restaurant are now owned by a family from Guatemala and truly made our experience a very pleasant one from Chef Arlene Meneses. We enjoyed the service and smiles from the staff and the menu for breakfast, lunch or dinner offer quite a variety of options to choose from. Recommendation for HADA Orchards in Bulan, fruit orchard tour

A little north of Paute is an amazing eco-agricola large orchard of apples, pears, and plums. The owner, Adolfo Verdugo, welcome groups of 6 for a 2-hour hike through the amazing hilltop where the fruit is ripe and ready for picking.

Adolfo is very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna, and he loves to show off his beautiful orchards. Being in the fresh air and surrounded by beautiful trees and views over the valley of Paute, was like being in a dream. I went with two adults and three kids: 5, 7, and 11. The kid loved climbing trees, picking fruit, hugging trees. A gorgeous day.

I do have to mention that there is a lot of uphill climbing; rubber boots are recommended.

After we descended to the shop next to the church, we paid the $15 for the tour and for the fruit we had collected. No charge for the fruit we consumed en route.

Recommendation for M&W Salon, barber/stylist

If you’re looking for a straightforward, down to earth barber that will actually listen, Ken Cuban at M&W Salon is your guy. He just opened his own salon after leaving another… one that by the way I stopped going to because they would not listen. Ken speaks English fluently and goes out of his way to give his clients what they ask for.
