Paws with Hope
Help Paws with Hope move
Hello Cuenca friends and friends of Paws with Hope. We are extremely thankful for all who are involved in keeping our rescue animals fed, sheltered, and vetted.

Unfortunately, not too long ago we found out that that the owner of the house we recently rented has sold the house. Now we have no option but to relocate again.

Luckily we have found a property that will allow the dogs and cats. So, we have no choice but to ask for help from the community and our supporters. We are just making it with food for the rescues and our other expenses so this move is not something we expected or can afford.

Besides the deposit we need to come up with the first month’s rent and funding for the materials to raise and secure the fence to keep the rescue dogs safe and contained.

Any donation is very much appreciated. Also, if you are looking to adopt please send us a message. Paypal: Pawswithhopecuenca@yahoo.com

Thank you for supporting Paulina Urgiles

A big thank you to everyone who has donated to Paulina’s Go Fund Me page. We have raised $395 so far. We would love to receive more donations.

Many of you know Paulina, who is finishing law school at the University of Cuenca and will be graduating mid-2021. Like many, she has been struggling to support herself and has been cutting hair and helping people resolve billing or financial problems. She is weighed down by medical debt owed to IESS that is keeping her from moving forward with her life.

Paulina’s dream is to start a pro bono law practice defending the vulnerable members of society, specializing in LBGTI persons suffering discrimination, physical attacks or even death. Ecuador’s constitution guarantees equal rights to all, but the reality on the ground is quite different. Paulina would like to make the reality match the ideals written in law but not enforced.

During the quarantine Paulina organized a food drive for vulnerable persons with no other means of finding food, and helped distribute food parcels to people in need.

I have established a GoFundMe page for Paulina at https://gofund.me/bdc0a793 where you can make a donation. Her debt is over $20,000 but any amount will help Paulina in paying down the debt to IESS. The GoFundMe page has more details about the situation here in Ecuador for LBGTI persons.

Paulina is a neighbor of mine and I have gotten to know her well over the past year through the quarantine.

If you wish to contact Paulina directly her email address is paulinaurgiles4@gmail.com and her phone number is 098 890 7549.

Survey – cultural preservation in Ecuador

Hi, We are a group of students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute working with Casa Museo de la Makana in Gualaceo, Ecuador on a cultural preservation project that is being published in the coming weeks.

It would help our data collection greatly if anyone who has visited the museum could complete the anonymous survey linked below about their visitor experience. It should take less than 5 minutes.

Please share with anyone you know who has also visited the museum. Thank you very much.

Benefit concert for Azuay Community Theater

ACT Funraiser Review at La Yunta, March 13 & 14

Azuay Community Theater is holding a musical review at La Yunta restaurant Saturday and Sunday March 13 and 14 beginning at 5 PM each day.

$10 at the door. Limited seating, so reservations are required. Email AzuayCommunityTheater@gmail.com for reservations. All proceeds go to the theater.

Featured are:

Matthew Hart and Paco Lightfoot reprising the great blues and Americana show they did at La Yunta early in February;

Cuenca’s own Broadway star, Cindy Benson covering show tunes and the Great American Song Book backed by the versatile David Z on keyboards;

Northern Roots, performing great harmonies over classic Americana, with Jeff Schinsky, Glenn David, Sara HB and Kristen Grzegorek.

And Ray Lewis with his eclectic bag of blues, country and folk.

We would very much appreciate it if folks could team up and make reservations for four or more. It’s sort of like showering with friends, only different, and would not only help us have a bigger crowd, but would make Sole’s life a lot easier.

There’s a better than even chance that folks without reservations may be turned away. So reserve already.

If you don’t know already, La Yunta is on the south side of Primero de Mayo just east of Las Americas.

March 13 & 14, 5 PM each day, $10, La Yunta, on south side of Primmer de Mayo just east of Las Americas, Cuenca.

Cancellation of Saturday, Fun Day at the Movies

Due to an unexpected posting on Facebook, the ad for the Charity Movie was posted on GringoPost in error. Sadly, Cuenca Car Share is not yet able to bring back Saturday Fun Days.

If you still have it in your heart to donate something to the charity, I’m sure they would appreciate it.

But, for the meantime, put that $6 to good use and/or set it aside for the day that we are able to bring back the movies.

Many apologies for the erroneous posting. BTW – March 14 isn’t even a Saturday.

No date, posted incorrectly, Cuenca.

Delicious coffee in taste and aroma in the morning?

Enjoying a good coffee is one of the most common traditions in most cultures around the world. Coffee can be found in countless varieties, flavors, and prices.

There are two varieties of coffee trees, Arabica and Robusta. Arabica-type coffee is considered Premium and produces beans with the best flavor. Arabica coffee beans require very special conditions to grow. The coffee tree is highly susceptible to diseases and pests.

Once Arabica coffee is grown under ideal conditions, it must be processed correctly to bring premium coffee to your cup. Manual harvesting is important to ensure that only the reddest and ripest coffee cherry trees are harvested and used in the process. After being harvested, the coffee beans must be dried in the sun before being roasted by the experts.

I’m Andrés Guillermo, I take it to your home at no additional cost, I sell it in promotions of two or three bags at an incredible price. Do not miss out on the opportunity to taste a coffee harvested at 1300 meters above sea level, contact me WhatsApp 099 647 2877 or call me, it will be a pleasure to serve you at home at no additional cost.

I am Andrés Guillermo, the only distributor in Cuenca and Azuay of 100% Arabian coffee, grown and harvested at 1,300 meters above sea level, in the province of Zaruma. I have roasted coffee in two presentations: ground and beans, 450-gram bags so that you can make your breakfast or afternoon coffee a delicious experience in your mouth. 1,808 new cases of COVID-19 in the country this last Sunday in Ecuador

Ecuador, this Sunday, added 1,808 new cases of COVID-19 and its level of contagion during the year that the pandemic lasts in the country, amounted to 286,155 positives, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Public Health. For the statistics of deaths, it reached 11,085 confirmed deaths with the disease, to which 4,753 “probable deaths” are added, for a total of 15,811 deaths, the statistics of the Health portfolio specify.

The report reiterates that the Andean province of Pichincha is the one that accumulates the highest number of infections with 100,480 positive cases, which represents an increase of 364 in the last 24 hours. It is followed by the coast of Guayas with 36,351 infections, 312 more than on Saturday, and surpasses Manabí (20,529), Azuay (17,367), El Oro (12,625), Tungurahua (10,216), Loja (10,345), Imbabura (8,618), Cotopaxi (8,127), Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas (7,818), Los Ríos (7,577) and Esmeraldas (6,077).

The problem is that Ecuadorians do not make good use of the mask or use non-approved masks. They care more about what a good mask costs than their own health. According to the World Health Organization, KN95 filter masks are still the most suitable to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

I am Andrés Guillermo, distributor in Cuenca and Azuay of KN95 masks with filter, made in the USA. These masks are not the ones sold in Shopping Centers, they are masks with sanitary registration, laminated and with high protection. Its use is comfortable, it avoids dizziness, headaches, fogging of lenses or glasses. They are lightweight and are placed behind the ears, but above all 100% safe and reliable. I sell them by unit or box of 20 masks. Contact me at 0996472877, WhatsApp or call me.

Mule/courier service from USA to any major city in Ecuador

Hi Expat Community, I’m offering a new mule/courier service from USA, to major cities in Ecuador, like Cuenca, Salinas, Manta, Quito, Guayaquil, etc. via packaged courier. Could be clothes, shoes, sneakers, art supplies, lamps, spices, vitamins, kitchenware, pots and pans, etc. Or anything legal. Please do not request anything illegal like guns or drugs. Unfortunately, no cell phones or laptops. Used laptops are OK. This is how it works: you tell me what you need and I buy it after you deposit in my account or you buy it online and ship it to my address here in New Jersey. I’m a prime member on Amazon, but you can buy anywhere like Macy’s, Best Buy, Home Depot, Target, etc. Once it gets here you pay for the shipping and it will get to your city in Ecuador within 12 – 16 days for you to pick up. FYI in my locality there’s no tax on shoes and clothes, everything else if I buy in person, tax is only 3.5%. If you or I buy online, tax is 7%. I will send you a receipt. To give you an example I just bought a house in Salinas and Cuenca and furnished my 2 homes with sheets, towels, smart faucets, smart front door locks, kitchenware, LED lamps. Any tech that you may not find or, is too expensive in Ecuador, I’ll ship it to you. I also helped my friends and collaborators with this offer for the past 5 years and I decided to help the Expat community as well. If interested please email me or WhatsApp or text me. I’ll answer any questions or concerns regarding price, payment or any other questions you might have. You have many choices of payment in Ecuador via transfer or teller, to my account in banco del Pichincha or banco del Austro. In the US via deposit or transfer to my Chase checking account. thru Zelle, PayPal, Venmo. I will need your full name, your address in Ecuador your cell # and your Cedula #. The Ecuadorian customs requires this info, when your package arrives to your city. The shipping company will text you to retrieve it. Quick reply and tracking of your goods. Now the most Important Issue you may have? Why should I buy it, ship it to his home and I’ll never see him again or won’t reply? I truly understand the skepticism and distrust, I’m here to help you, I’ve been here for almost 45 years. I own my home and rental properties here in NY/NJ and Florida as well as in Ecuador, I’m also about to retire back home in the next 2 years and I understand when I get down there with my wife it’ll be a bit different and would hate to travel back just to get some new tech or whatever every time if I can’t find in Ecuador. With that said, I can only say that you can trust me. I’ve learned the culture of honesty, punctuality, respect to others that this great country has taught me, Thanks for your time and reading my post. FYI my phone # is a NYC phone

Recommendation for Leonardo Duran, tech guy

Leonardo posted a brand new Epson printer he was selling. It was time for me to add one and I contacted him about price, delivery and setup. His email response was punctual and fair. We agreed to his terms and proceeded from there. Leonardo arrived on time with the printer wearing a mask. He went about the setup on both my laptop and cell phone explaining how the features of the printer work. He is thorough, professional and pleasant to work with. Later that night, I came home to find out I had no internet connection, I called Leonardo to ask if there was something weird that happened during the install and he insured me there wasn’t. In short order he was back at my house and on the phone with my ISP. There were several issues he was able to resolve. Leonardo Duran is the real deal. I highly recommend him and his services to all interested. This is a guy you want to know.

Recommendation for Expat Envoy, professional personal courier service

My many experiences with Expat Envoy have been both professional and effortless.

I needed to utilize DHL during the months when Expat Envoy was full and it helped me recognize what a blessing it is to have the services of Harrison and his family.

While DHL was very fast and professional, I paid at least 4 x as much (shipping price + duty fees) and there were at least 10 or more emails with DHL regarding submitting my cedula and other paperwork. While I was happy to do so and the staff were all helpful, it began to feel like I had a job with DHL.

I used to transport many things (many suitcases) with my family from the US for my family in Ecuador. It is a lot of work.

We are very fortunate to have this very affordable service through Expat Envoy. They are professional, always respond swiftly to emails, and they offer delivery. My items always arrive in better condition than when I pack them myself.

Fast, effortless, no paperwork and clear communication. Thank you Expat Envoy!
