Withdrawal issue with Banco del Austro ATMs

Recently my wife and I have had problems withdrawing cash from our US bank accounts using Banco del Austro ATMs.

We are receiving a message “You have exceeded your limit on the number of transactions”.

We have tried two different Banco del Austro ATM machines, used different ATM cards, and used different US banks and have seen the same message. We are able to complete an ATM transaction when we use a Banco Pacifico ATM.

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

Question about visa

Hi, I have to get a new visa – the visa de consanguinidad, and need to have the background check done. Does this have to be apostilled and which type of report do I ask for? From which website is it the CJS or FBI? Help me with a link or any experience that could help me figure it out?

Also when applying for the visa online which website do I go to where I can fill in the application?
Can I apply and complete the visa from the US or must I be in Ecuador? I’m thankful for any help.

La Niña 2020/2021

Weather experts are saying La Niña has peaked and on the way out but the cool/wet trend will continue in April.

First half of February was very nice but she’s back daily for the past two weeks or so.

Come sweet lady, take a break and let the sun come out…

Sky is waiting for her turn

Last month Sky’s friend Leah found her forever home after a three year wait. Sky is hoping her forever family or person doesn’t make her wait that long.

Young adult, spayed, vetted, great with kids and adults, but it takes a while for her to get comfortable with other dogs.

If you have room in your heart for a big, steady girl, please come visit. Sky is waiting patiently. Please don’t make her wait too long.

For adoption to responsible home. Great with cats, kids, people. Takes a while to get comfortable with new dogs. Vetted and spayed. Please be in touch soon.

Concert of the Cuenca Symphony Orchestra this Thursday, March 4

The Cuenca Symphony Orchestra under the baton of maestro Augusto Carrión Rodas (Ecuador), presents a new concert this Thursday, March 4 at 7 PM at the Casa de la Cultura theater. All biosecurity and social distancing measures will be respected. Free admission to fill the capacity authorized by the Cantonal COE (30%) in this theater – 400 seats.

The repertoire includes: Largo and Allegro de la Serenata N° 10 for Winds in B Flat major, K361 Gran Partita by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Idyll of Siegfried by Richard Wagner, Andante Festivo by Jean Sibelius and Alborada de la Esperanza by José Elizondo.

Largo and Allegro de la Serenata N° 10 for Winds in B Flat major, K361 Gran Partita. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The parts for wind instruments were works composed to liven up lunches and dinners, and were written in a light and lively tone. In this little part, Mozart broke all the genre schemes by writing a work of extraordinary richness and musicality. The timbral specificity of the wind instruments is enhanced by Mozart in sections of dialogue between the various instruments, both in the Adagio and in the variations and in the lively final Rondo “.

Idyll of Siegfried. Richard Wagner. It is a chamber composition (for a small orchestra) completed at Villa Triebschen on December 4, 1870, celebrating the birth of his son Siegfried Wagner (1869) and his marriage to Cósima Liszt (1879). Wagner himself directed the premiere of the play that had been secretly rehearsed by Hans Richter twenty-one days later for Cósima’s birthday, who was turning 33 years old on Christmas Day 1870.

Festive Andante. Jean Sibelius. It is a composition originally written for a string quartet in 1922. In 1938, the composer reorchestrated the piece for a string orchestra and timpani. On January 1, 1939 Sibelius directed his live composition of him that was broadcast worldwide, making it the only sound document of the composer conducting his own music.

Dawn of Hope. José Elizondo. The dawn of hope was composed in 2018 for two world events of great importance: the centenary of the Armistice that marked the end of World War I that was celebrated in Paris in November 2018 and the World Youth Day held in Panama in January 2019. The theme of this work on hope has had a particular relevance during the Covid-19 pandemic, as numerous musicians have performed the work in many places on the planet because the message it has is related to current reality. The great poet Rafael Z. Flores (Mexico) put lyrics to this work and the lyrics make the message even more present and more powerful. Both the orchestral version and the vocal version are performed.

We thank our audiences for visiting the Digital Concert Hall on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/user/sinfonicacuenca in which so far we have 44 concerts for all tastes that they can enjoy and share from anywhere on the planet at the time and as many times as they wish.

Seeking a way to help you help me

Can I help tutor your children? I’m a Spanish speaking teacher available in the afternoons. I can work one on one with your children to make sure they are getting the most out of their classes. If you are not in Cuenca, I can serve you via the internet with classes for your children.

On-line learning is a real challenge for youngsters and if they are English speaking with classes in Spanish, it can be even worse. Why not ask a real, live teacher to come to your home to tutor them? Or, if it works out better for you, she could tutor on line using Zoom – she has experience with that. She has her own children, so knows how to reach a child. Sometimes all it takes to help a child is someone who is there just for that child and is able to focus exclusively on them.

My friend is looking for work from 2 to 6 PM. She is a 42-year-old teacher with two teenagers who is currently earning a measly $200 a month. Her husband suffered from leukemia for a long time and has now died. She has to pay medical bills for him and is struggling just to make ends meet on that salary. Her children are in school and she works in the morning but needs a job in the afternoon to provide enough income for the family to eat properly and have the bare essentials, and to help pay the bills. She doesn’t speak English but is able to use Google Translate. She can tutor, cook, clean, and do gardening or other tasks around the home or office.

There is nothing like having a native speaker of Spanish assist your child with their Spanish classes. If you can’t employ her for a whole week, even an afternoon or two would help and hopefully someone else could employ her the other days. If you have a heart to help, please contact me,

Lots of new things and returning products at Luvimar Gourmet Market

Hello Everybody. I hope you’re doing amazing. I got exciting news. Please read it until the end.
First, Korean fish sauce (500 g $12) and Gochujang (500 g $12.50) are back. The fish sauce I carry now, is made with anchovies, so it’s more concentrated which allows you to use less.

The gochujang now comes in 500 g presentation, instead of the 250 g I used to carry.

New products.
Kimchi in two varieties, cabbage or daikon. Also, Kerala style spicy green mango relish, which is used as a great side dish in Indian cuisine. $5 each.

Last but not least. Chocolate, and not just any chocolate. You won’t find this chocolate anywhere else in Cuenca yet.

Kamm, a new socially responsible Ecuadorian brand, working with the Chachi community in Esmeraldas, paying them a fair price for fine aroma cocoa to make a revolutionary chocolate with lyophilized and crystalized elements. You could say it’s chocolate with crystals. 85% cocoa, organic, vegan, keto, sugar-free, non-gmo, bean to bar. You have to try them.

Three varieties available right now. Big mango, ginger lemonade and salty caramel. New variety with hemp seeds coming in the next couple of months, but for now you won’t regret trying the other 3. $5.35 each 60 g bar. It’s worth it. You can try a little sample first at my store.

Sorry for the long message. Have a great day.

Ecuador has so many treasures – visit them now

Last week I told you about my new tourism business which I have just opened. I have a licensed tourism van (no getting stopped on the road for being “illegal” and ending up toting your suitcase until the next ride comes along – this still happens!) and a licensed engineer/guide who can take you around Ecuador to see the things you want to see. We can accommodate 7 passengers with biosecurity measures.

What is a tourism engineer? He is someone who has studied tourism in the University and has received the degree of Ingeniero – engineer. He knows all the ins and outs of touring Ecuador.

Just contact me and we’ll arrange the details according to the desires of your group – not the driver’s wishes. It will be a great trip.

Recommendation for Daphne Dupree, gardening and landscape

Just by chance, we met Daphne at a Chinese restaurant after she overheard us talking about plants. This was two years ago, but when we made the final move to Cuenca, we contacted her to landscape our terrace.

After coming over to look at the area, listen to our thoughts, she created a design. We, along with her exceptional work partner, Raphael Sucozhañay, went to the nursery to pick out plants. Daphne explained her ideas with each choice making certain we approved. Raphael brought up a mountain of fresh soil and new planters.

After giving us explicit instructions for upkeep, our terrace looks spectacular.

Recommendation for Rafael Sucozhañay, landscape and home repair

Rafael is a co-worker with Daphne Dupree, but he is so much more. He lugged tons of fresh soil up the stairs to our terrace, move heavy planting pots, created two garden boxes with trellises, hung all of our art on the walls, is creating a grass box for our dog, and put in plumbing fixtures in each of our bathrooms.

We sold our gas grill. Raphael is moving it for us.

His English is fluent and he is a consistent communicator. We are thrilled to have met him.

Recommendation for Jorge Tosi, appliance repair – all sizes

Jorge Tosi – Grand master of gizmos and Rajah of repairs – just opened his new shop. He is now accepting repair needs at his new locale – corner of El Tejar and Los Cerezos. Just a few doors up from Aranadano Super Despensa (Heading west out of town on Ordonez Lasso, turn right at the light just past Hotel Oro Verde and head up the hill. He is one block up on the right)

Whatever the problem, Jorge and his family can take care of it quickly, more efficiently and less expensively than anyone else. Highly recommended.

Rrtisan chorizos – fresh homemade sausages

I know one of the family partners of the business and I’ve tried all their sausages. If you like link sausages, you really ought to try them. The quality is awesome and they are super good. I like to cook and I’ve used them for several dishes I’ve made recently. One was a Mexican Frittata with some of the mild and the spicy, both great. The other sausage they make is a garlic sausage. It might be my favorite.

Check them out, you won’t be disappointed.
