New principal conductor of the Cuenca Symphony Orchestra debuts with works by Rossini and Mozart.
The maestro Augusto Carrión Rodas (Ecuador) who was appointed on February 18, by the Minister of Culture and Heritage, Julio Bueno Arévalo, as the new principal conductor of the Cuenca Symphony Orchestra, debuts this Friday, February 26 at 7 PM at the Pumapungo theater with works by Rossini and Mozart. All biosecurity and social distancing measures will be respected. Free admission until the capacity authorized by the Cantonal COE (30%) is filled.
The repertoire includes: The Italian in Algiers, in C Major – Overture by Gioacchino Rossini and The Symphony No. 36 in C major, K. 425 Linz by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Augusto Carrión Rodas – Director of the Symphony Orchestra. Loja-Ecuador. His musical training was carried out at the Salvador Bustamante Celi Conservatory. He served as a teacher at the Cuenca and Quito conservatories, he was a member of the symphonic orchestras of Loja, Cuenca and the national orchestras of Ecuador as principal violist. In 1990 he changed his residence to Mexico, a country where he worked in the Symphonic Orchestra of the State of Mexico OSEM with which he toured Europe, China and the United States, Chamber Orchestra of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico . He is the creator and founder of the Toluca City Council String Quartet and the Toluca Philharmonic Orchestra, of which he was the first Artistic Director. He was director for the period of 11 years of the Esperanza Azteca Bicentenario Symphony Orchestra and the Esperanza Azteca State Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Youth Chamber Orchestra of Toluca.
The Italian in Algiers, in C Major – Overture by Gioacchino Rossini. Premiered on May 22, 1813, at the San Benedetto theater in Venice, The Italian in Algiers is a comic opera by the Italian composer Gioachino Rossini based on the crazy libretto by Angelo Anelli, which was not even original. In this overture, we find very catchy songs with a great capacity to be retained by the public. It earned Rossini an extraordinary success, due to the combination of several elements: on the one hand, the originality and brilliance of the melodies; on the other, for using the resources offered by the orchestra to color and match the voice, especially on wooden instruments; and finally, by the rhythmic liveliness, which generates a continuous sensation of movement.
Funny, funny, witty, catchy would be few adjectives with which we could describe this great overture.
Symphony No. 36 in C major, K. 425 Linz by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Linz Symphony, which opens Mozart’s series of five great final symphonies, and which according to the same composer was written in four days during a stopover in the Austrian city of Linz on his and his wife’s way back to Vienna from Salzburg in late 1783 to accommodate the announcement of the local count, learning of Mozart’s arrival in Linz, from a concert, certainly shows no signs of a rush. Only a genius like his allowed him to compose a work so beautiful in four days that it has gone down in history as a tribute to this Austrian city, Linz.
We thank our audiences for visiting the Digital Concert Hall on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/user/sinfonicacuenca in which so far we have 44 concerts for all tastes that they can enjoy and share from anywhere on the planet to the time and as many times as you wish.

Hi Expat Community, I’m offering a new mule/ courier service from USA, to major cities in Ecuador, like Cuenca, Salinas, Manta, Quito, Guayaquil, etc. via packaged courier. Could be clothes, shoes, sneakers, lamps, spices, vitamins, kitchenware, pots and pans, etc. Or anything Legal. Please do not request anything illegal like guns or drugs. Unfortunately, no cell phones. Used laptops are OK.
This is how it works: you tell me what you need and I buy it after you deposit in my account or you buy it online and ship it to my address here in New Jersey 07093. I’m a prime member on Amazon, but you can buy anywhere like Macy’s, Best Buy, Home Depot, Target, etc. Once it gets here you pay for the shipping and it will get to your city in Ecuador within 10 – 15 days for you to pick up. FYI in my locality there’s no tax on shoes and clothes, everything else if I buy in person, tax is only 3.5%. If you or I buy online, tax is 7%. I will send you a receipt.
To give you an example I just bought a house in Salinas and Cuenca and furnished my 2 homes with sheets, towels, smart faucets, smart front door locks, kitchenware, LED lamps. Any tech that you may not find or, is too expensive in Ecuador, I’ll ship it to you. I also helped my friends and collaborators with this offer for the past 5 years and I decided to help the Expat community as well.
If interested please email me or WhatsApp or text me. I’ll answer any questions or concerns regarding price, payment or any other questions you might have. You have many choices of payment in Ecuador via transfer or teller, to my account in banco del Pichincha or banco del Austro. In the US via deposit or transfer to my Chase checking account (You must have a Chase account to deposit cash FYI) thru Zelle, PayPal, Venmo. I will need your full name, your address in Ecuador your cell # and your Cedula #. The Ecuadorian customs requires this info, when your package arrives to your city. The shipping company will text you to retrieve it. Quick reply and tracking of your goods.
Now the most Important Issue you may have? Why should I buy it, ship it to his home and I’ll never see him again or won’t reply? I truly understand the skepticism and distrust, I’m here to help you, I’ve been here for almost 45 years. I own my home and rental properties here in NY/NJ and Florida as well as in Ecuador, I’m also about to retire back home in the next 2 years and I understand when I get down there with my wife it’ll be a bit different and would hate to travel back just to get some new tech or whatever every time if I can’t find in Ecuador.
With that said, I can only say that you can trust me. I’ve learned the culture of honesty, punctuality, respect to others that this great country has taught me, Thanks for your time.

We just got our permanent visas and Isabel exceeded our expectations. For our temporary, we used a different facilitator who we could not recommend. This experience, however, was painless as we never went to Azogues, airport, etc. She handled it all. She confidently guarantees her work and does not collect her fee until you have your visa. This is the true mark of an honest business person. She was up front about her (lowest price we could find) flat fee and there were no surprises. She is bilingual English/Spanish and has her own car. No additional driver/translator to pay.

We’ve already had a lot of interest in next week’s Greek inspired menu. Here are more detailed descriptions of the pasta dish and the tuna salad to help you make your decision:
Greek Chicken Pasta: chicken and pasta are mixed with spinach, tomatoes, red and yellow bell pepper (cut large enough to pick out), and mushrooms then tossed with an ooey, gooey, creamy, cheesy sauce. All of this is topped with bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese then baked to a golden brown.
Mediterranean Tuna Salad: Tuna mixed with olives, radishes, hearts of palm, celery, cucumbers (peeled & seeded), cherry tomatoes, and green onions tossed with a light, lemony vinaigrette.
As a reminder, here’s the rest of the menu and ordering details.
