Somebody left an umbrella at Luvimar

Good morning to everybody. Somebody left an umbrella at my gourmet market (Luvimar), but I don’t know who it was. I found it when I was closing.

If the owner reads this post, I want you to know that your umbrella is in good hands and you can pick it up during my working hours (Mon to Fri, 9 AM to 1 PM and 2 to 6 PM. Sat 9 AM to 1 PM).

Have a great day,

A big thank you and an update on Ginger

For those who remember Ginger, you’ll recall she was hit by a car, removed from the road and carried back to safety in a wheelbarrow a few weeks ago. The concerned resident could not afford veterinary care and Ginger suffered for two weeks with broken bones protruding from her left arm.

That’s when Patan Rescue was contacted and they took action to get Ginger the help she so desperately needed. Patan implemented a fundraising campaign so that Dr. Gallardo, could purchase the necessary supplies for surgery to save the arm.

After a number of days it became evident that Ginger’s surgery was not successful and her arm would have to be amputated. She has endured so much suffering in her young life. She spent over a month at the vet clinic.

The good news is, thanks to your generous donations, that she is recovering nicely and doing very well now. Animals do exceptionally well with missing limbs, due to lack of ego. She will be a normal little girl in every way.

We’re hoping to find this sweet soul a permanent or foster home until she can be adopted. She is about 1-year-old, spayed, vaccinated, wormed and weighs about 8 kg. We do expect her to fill out some but she is and will continue to be a very manageable size doggie.

Would you be willing to adopt or foster Ginger? Do you know someone with a big heart who would step up for this innocent creature?

Thank you for your continued support of Patan Rescue Group. Donations may be made via Paypal through the account of Barbara Suderman.

Urgent – reliable lady looking for employment

My friend is looking for work from 2 to 6 PM. She is a 42-year-old teacher with two teenagers who is currently earning a measly $200 a month. Her husband suffered from leukemia for a long time and has now died. She has to pay medical bills for him and is struggling just to make ends meet on that salary. Her children are in school and she works in the morning but needs a job in the afternoon to provide enough income for the family to eat properly and have the bare essentials, and to help pay the bills. She doesn’t speak English but is able to use Google Translate. She can cook, teach, clean, and do gardening or other tasks around the home or office.

If you can’t employ her for a whole week, even an afternoon or two would help and hopefully someone else could employ her the other days.

If you have a heart to help, please contact me.

Problems with internet/phone/electricity/water/healthcare bills?

I am a law student at the University of Cuenca, I have finished all my courses and am writing my thesis, so almost-but-not-quite a lawyer. I can help you with any difficulties you are having with billing (facturas) for internet service, phone plans, electricity or water bills, coordination between hospitals and health insurance plans, etc.

I can take a look at your current internet or cell phone plan and see if there is a cheaper alternative. I am not a health insurance agent and do not represent insurance companies, but if you are having difficulties in communicating with a private insurance company and your agent isn’t being helpful, I can advocate on your behalf to get the health care benefits that you have paid for.

Internet and cell phone service providers periodically lower their monthly charges for internet packages, but existing customers must ask for the new, lower prices to receive them. Otherwise, the company will keep billing you at your originally contracted rate. Some ETAPA water customers are suddenly receiving bills of $90 or more after months of paying the normal $12-$15.

Do you need an advocate to fight for you in the event of billing errors? Do you just need someone to call your internet provider to report outages or slow internet or to request that a repair team come to your house to check the connection? I am not a technology expert and do not troubleshoot internet problems, but can help you with dealing with the internet provider to report slow internet or internet outages.

I recently assisted a same sex couple to JEP who were having difficulty opening a joint bank account (the U.S. marriage certificate was not accepted). I accompanied them to the Registro Central to get their marriage registered in Ecuador, and we then returned to the bank to open the joint bank account. The constitutional law in Ecuador has changed but sometimes businesses and banks have not yet updated their procedures to reflect the new law. My law school classes covered LGBTI legal matters in Ecuador and I am happy to assist expats with LBGTI questions.

I charge $10 an hour, but if it takes more than two hours to resolve your problem, there is a discount of 20%, to $8 an hour (so four hours would be $32). If we need to travel in person to an office and a taxi is needed, that will be extra (but is usually minimal). Let me be your advocate.

I will come to you, or we can meet in Cuenca. To be determined.

Paulina Urgiles: paulinaurgiles4@gmail.com 098 890 7549

Do you want to go to the jungle?

Hello Adventurers,

We started this year with our first jungle tour with total success. Our passengers were happy to meet, enjoy and do different outdoor activities.

We have decided to establish three new dates for the tour, so you can plan your vacations and do not miss this great adventure with your family or friends. This is an organized tour for small groups, no more than 15 people for a 6 days / 5 nights trip.

In our trip to the jungle, we combine visits to the Andes and Jungle. We will stay at Suchipakari Ecolodge in Misahualli and we will enjoy hiking in the rainforest, learn more about the Quichua culture, and navigate the waters of the beautiful Napo River. On our way to the jungle, we will visit Baños de Ambato and the Chimborazo volcano, on the way back to Cuenca.

Worried about Insurance service in Ecuador?

Insurance can be a complicated purchase. You’re buying a promise of protection that could potentially make or break your financial well-being. How do you know that you’re making the right choices about coverage?

Here are seven reasons why we believe the independent agency experience benefits you:

1. They give you a choice – Independent agents represent many different insurance companies that offer a wide variety of coverage options and price points. They find you the right blend of price, coverage, and service.
2. They are licensed experts – Independents can explain the complexities of insurance in simple terms. Don’t forget to ask about the Licensed number to be sure about your agent, Our licensed credentials are attached.
3. They are personal advisers – Agents not only find you competitive pricing, they make sure you are adequately covered.
4. They are your advocate – If you have a billing or claim concern, or need to change your coverage, your agent can be your advocate, working with the insurance company on your behalf.
5. They are right around the corner – Independent agents are your neighbors…they share your interest in the community where you live, and understand the benefits and challenges of living in your locale.
6. They offer one-stop shopping – Independent agents can often meet all of your insurance needs with the companies they represent, providing auto, home, renter’s, and business coverage. Many offer life and health insurance as well.
7. They are consultants for a lifetime – Independent agents periodically review your coverage. They are there to help you through all the changes in your life, whether you’re going from renting an apartment to buying a home, starting a business, getting married, renovating your home, adding a teen driver to your auto policy, or looking to cover that retirement condo.

Recommendation for MontaRuna – outdoor recreation, horseback riding and more

We had booked a private horseback ride for our group of 7, but when we arrived another group was gearing up for rock climbing which demonstrates the wide range of outdoor recreational activities that MontaRuna offers.

Our ride was very engaging and very interesting. The horses were well-trained, well-kept, and well-saddled. Our group included experienced riders and riders who had never been on a horse before, but it was a safe, interesting ride for all.

Carlos, our bilingual guide, coached us in horsemanship, and as a result, we all became better riders. Carlos also presented the history of the land and its inhabitants, plus geography. Our ride included both uphill and downhill riding, as well as a ride though a pine forest. During the ride, we passed through several micro-climates.

A highlight of our tour was a delicious lunch featuring Thai chicken, scalloped potatoes, and fresh-baked chocolate-chip cookies – yum.

We left Cuenca at 9 AM and were back home at 4 PM after a good day’s adventure. We had our own private transportation, but Carlos can arrange for your own transportation – if you need it – as well, design a custom ride for you.

MontaRuna is located about an hour and a half southwest of Cuenca.

Recommendation for Merlot, restaurant

If you like Italian food, good wine, drinks and friendly professional service…you’ll definitely like Merlot. Sometimes one tries a new restaurant with some reservation, especially if you are eating solo. Merlot is a half a block off Solano on Gonzalo Cordero.

I had a nice Caesar Salad, some excellent lasagna and light cream dessert. By the way, the Merlot, like its name was great. For a restaurant that is only open around a month, I must say they know what they are doing.

It’s a family-owned restaurant and you get that feeling as soon as you sit down. Whether you speak Spanish or English you will get excellent service. I look forward to my next visit to try another dish. Everything I saw that came out of the kitchen looked delicious.

Merlot is a fairly small place and you can sit safely either inside or out. They adhere to Covid regulations. Give it a try for either lunch or dinner. You’ll be glad you did.
