Last week we examined the wonderful benefits our brain receives from exercise. This week we’ll see what the Mayo Clinic and the American Heart Association have to say about the benefits of exercise.
According to the Mayo Clinic (http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/fitness/in-depth/exercise/art-20048389?pg=2) exercise can improve our lives in the following ways:
Exercise controls weight.
Exercise boosts HDL cholesterol and decreases LDL cholesterol, so decreases our risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Exercise boosts HDL cholesterol and decreases LDL cholesterol, so decreases your risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Exercise can help us prevent or manage stroke, metabolic syndrome, high blood pressure, type II diabetes, depression, anxiety, many types of cancer, arthritis and falls.
Exercise improves mood by stimulating various brain chemicals that may help us feel happier, more relaxed and less anxious.
Exercise boosts energy. It can improve our muscle strength and boost our endurance.
Exercise promotes better sleep. It can help us fall asleep faster and experience deeper sleep. Just don’t exercise too close to bedtime, to avoid sleep problems.
Exercise can be fun and social.
Exercise can improve our sex life.
And the American Heart Association adds these benefits:
Physical activity improves the quality of life.
Moderate exercise helps in the battle to quit smoking.
It provides a way to share an activity with family and friends.
It helps delay or prevent chronic illnesses and diseases associated with aging and maintains the quality of life and independence longer for seniors.
These are just some of the benefits of moving our bodies (with exercise) regularly.
*Next week we’ll look at how exercise helps prevent some more serious health problems. *
