Thank you to all of the Gringos who offered up a toaster oven for a poor Cuencano family. We chose the best one and delivered it today.
I also want to thank general contractor, Carlos Leone,9 who changed out all of the ancient electrical outlets and light switches and ceiling light fixtures. Many of these had not worked for years. He actually helped to bring light into these peoples’ lives.
This is a single mother supporting herself and her sweet 16-year old son. She just finished high school and will start the university in February. The son is in his junior year and is getting good grades.
The mother is doing all of this by doing manicures and pedicures and haircuts for women and children. Let me know if you want her contact information.
Toaster ovens are a great gift to gift to these families. Many will not use the oven because they have to pay for the gas. Many do not pay for electricity. The toaster oven will allow them to expand their diet tremendously.
Thank you again to all. Abrazos

The VI Concert of the II Season 2020 directed by maestro Jorge Oviedo Jaramillo, Guest Conductor, is the next digital delivery. This concert was recorded live without public on Wednesday, October 28 and Thursday, October 29 in the Old Cathedral, strictly following the “Work Protocol for the Production of Audiovisual and Cinematographic Works during the health crisis caused by COVID-19 in Ecuador” processed by the Ministry of Culture and approved by the National COE and will be broadcast this Monday, November 2, Day of the Dead and within the framework of the activities programmed for the Bicentennial of Cuenca, at 8 PM in the Digital Concert Hall of the Cuenca Symphony Orchestra on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/user/sinfonicacuenca and on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/sinfonicacuenca.
This concert has the participation of María Augusta Jibaja, Guest Mezzo soprano and the Pumapungo Choir, directed by Karina Urgilés Encalada. The repertoire includes: Aequinoctialis (Local premiere) by Leonardo Cárdenas and Réquiem 20 (World premiere) by Jorge Oviedo Jaramillo tribute to the victims of COVID-19. Aequinoctialis (Local premiere). Leonardo Cárdenas Palacios. Work composed in 2017. It is based on the proposal to be a chamber work written in a reduced format for a small orchestra: 2 oboes, 2 horns in F and orchestra strings. Its structure is rhapsodic and encompasses various moments and environments, through Ecuadorian rhythms and genres of an Andean and indigenous Kichwa nature, whose sound characterizes it, as a whole.
Requiem 20 (Absolute premiere) by Jorge Oviedo Jaramillo tribute to the victims of COVID-19. The creation of this medium-format mixed work, Requiem 20, is intended to present a tribute to the victims of the pandemic, based on an academic musical work created and commissioned specifically for this purpose. The musical creation will be based on the Cuenca Symphony Orchestra, mixed choir and soloist, in reduced formats for rehearsals and assembly. The texts of this work correspond to the Christian liturgy and will be performed in Latin by a selection of mixed voices of adults, as a prayer for the rest of all the people who have died victims of this pandemic, and as a hymn of hope for the that we remain standing, within the context of the celebration of the deceased in the city of Cuenca and the country.
Jorge Oviedo Jaramillo. Composer and Director. His catalog of works, which includes different formats, has been considered and performed in different countries on five continents, obtaining awards and recognitions for several of his compositions. Responsible and executor of important staging and montages, among which are local and absolute premieres of Ecuadorian and foreign creators, inside and outside the country. As director, he has made recordings of works by the most important Ecuadorian academic composers. On stage, he has shared and accompanied prominent soloists such as Paulo Gori, Ney Rosauro, Pierre Yves Artaud, Tadashi Maeda, Andrés Torres, Tibaulth Cauvin, José Luis Urquieta, Luciano Carrera, Wolfgang David, among others. He currently maintains an agenda as a composer, director, and independent teacher. María Augusta Jibaja – Mezzosoprano.
She studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Quito with Master Cecilia Tapia Samaniego. She has received master classes with various teachers, including: Lourdes Álvarez (Spain), Magdalena Fischer (Germany), Lidia Vinyes-Curtis (Spain). She studied at the Vocal Academy of the Southwestern University in Russia with Soprano Irina Starodubtseva. She has performed as soloist: Stábat Mater (G. B Pergolesi), Symphony No. 2 (G. Mahler), together with the Guayaquil Symphony Orchestra; Magic Flute (W. A. Mozart), Te Deum (A. Bruckner) and Eunice (L. H. Salgado) in the role of Fulvia, together with the Cuenca Symphony Orchestra. Pumapungo Choir.
To form a solid group of choreographers whose main objective would be to spread a musical repertoire of high academic rigor, is the impulse that motivated the formation of the “Pumapungo” Choir. Its members possess the artistic qualities that they have previously developed individually, which have contributed effectively to this desire to assemble voices in a sound unit. This group has participated together with the Cuenca Symphony Orchestra in works such as Misa N ° 2 by Schubert, “Requiem” by Saint-Saëns, several Christmas Concerts, the world premiere of “Amor América” by Martin Palmeri, and now, the premiere absolute of “Requiem” by Jorge Oviedo.
With this delivery, there will be 35 digital concerts that the public can enjoy and share from anywhere on the planet at the time and as many times as they wish in the Digital Room of the Cuenca Symphony Orchestra.

Massage, physical therapy, housekeeping, cooking, shopping
The medical clinic Elsa worked in has been closed and she is without work. She has a family to support and is in critical need of a job. She was a medical assistant at the clinic I used, and I found her to be a delightful, engaging person, with excellent patient care skills. She was always happy to greet me and make me comfortable there. She has an excellent sense of humor and worked very hard in a busy clinic. I’m told she’s an excellent cook and that she will do anything if someone needs help at home. She has finished school while working and has multiple certifications in massage, physical therapy, and nursing. All of us who know her well really like this lady. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me (098 185 1032), Beth Sahada (+593 98 395 9519), and Dr. Fernando Juca (+593 98 641 9068). Please consider her if you need any help. She’s an excellent choice…better than most, and you will be very happy with her work.

Airfares are very low right now and as most of us do we check different sources before we purchase our tickets. Keep in mind we do a great service when we support a local business especially at this time.
Travel agencies do not get commissions from airlines for selling tickets so they have to charge a fee which usually still saves us money. Plus, we get 24/7 service during our trips by contacting Bryan Vidal with any problems or changes we might encounter on our trips.
So give CATSA a try they have many expat clients that are very satisfied with their service.
