Documents delivery to Ecuador

Hello, everybody! FYI – Document delivery.

I had a huge trouble with my new credit cards delivery. After 3+ months of all sorts of problems, I asked my mail forwarding service to ship, by then 3 credit cards :), by DHL. The shipping cost, by their slowest method, was $25. It arrived in Cuenca in 5 days, and was delivered to my door step.!!! So, I will never look for another mule to bring documents 🙂

The mail forwarding service I use now, after 4 others :(, is It has worked very well for me and is the least expensive. It can be shared by a few people.

Now More Than Ever

We are so grateful for the generosity of our supporters, who have helped us provide assistance to thousands in greatest need during the COVID-19 crisis. We could not have done any of this without you!

Every time we hear that familiar knock on the door, our hearts sink a bit with the thought of, “Will we be able to help, or will we be forced to turn them away?” The knocks come at all hours of the day and night and have been steadily increasing as the crisis goes on. Is it another mother who cannot feed her children? Someone with a sick baby? Someone who has been searching all day for food and now at 10pm is knocking at our door because they are desperate? Someone escaping violence?

We have seen it all. Crying mothers. Crying men. Crying grandmothers. Sick babies. Pregnant women. In wheelchairs. On crutches. Some carried. Disabled. Cancer. HIV. Scared. Living on the street. Eating out of garbage bins. Eating nothing at all for days. However, the needs are still massive.

Every time we hear that familiar knock on the door, our hearts sink a bit with the thought of, “Will we be able to help, or will we be forced to turn them away?” The knocks come at all hours of the day and night and have been steadily increasing as the crisis goes on. We have seen it all. Crying mothers. Crying men. Crying grandmothers. Sick babies. Bloodied men. Pregnant women. In wheelchairs. On crutches. Some carried. Disabled. Cancer. HIV. Scared. Living on the street. Eating out of garbage bins. Eating nothing at all for days.

The economy has taken a sharp downturn, which affects the poor most severely. Those who depend on a daily wage, barely eking by to convert their meager earnings into food each day, are still struggling to recover and survive. Young single mothers, the elderly, the sick, the homeless, and those with chronic illnesses all continue to come to us for help.

We want to answer that call. But the requests are many, and resources are few. If we were to meet all the needs this month, we would need to raise an additional $8,000 to meet our current shortfall. We are appealing to our supporters once again – to help us help those in dire need. If you would like to support our efforts, you can donate online at: If you prefer to make a donation through bank transfer, please contact us for the account information. We are also happy to schedule pick-ups of cash donations and in-kind donations of items. Thank you so much – we could not do any of this without you.

Help us help her

Hello, and blessings to all. Today, myself and a group of touched hearts organized this GoFundMe with the intent to raise money for young Danna Paola and her family in Cuenca, Ecuador. Danna is an 18-month-old toddler with the rare disease West Syndrome, a debilitating pre-existing birth condition that causes severe seizures along with physical and mental debilitation’s that have stunted her development.

Currently, her father lacks the means to a stable job, while her mother not only finds herself raising young Danna, but her other two siblings as well, all the while dealing with her own physical debilitation that affects her vision. Danna requires weekly therapeutic sessions geared at assisting and improving her motor and speech functions, and has dietary restrictions that prevent her from eating in accordance to her age.

We ask that you help us raise this money as a means to assist this struggling family with little to no support, all in efforts to provide Danna with a slightly brighter future. All proceeds will be sent to the family, and information on West Syndrome and its direct effects to development will be attached. If you have any other means to assist this family, be it with information or letting other people know, it would be greatly appreciated…

Let’s not let Danna lose her smile. Thank you and may God continuously bless you.

Please share with your family and friends. You can donate here:

I am Sole from la Yunta; help me to help

As you all are aware we have a situation in our city; many families with young kids in the streets pleading for money. My heart is broken every day when I see this.

The solution is not to give them money, it is to give them a job but the job situation at the moment it is very hard.

So my plan is to collect, food, clothes, blankets, etc. and I will drive once a week around Cuenca to distribute it to them.

So, if you can donate anything, it will be very much appreciates.

Our business is more central now so you can drop it there: La Yunta Ave 1 de Mayo between Ave Americas and Fray Gaspar de Carvajal. We are open every day from 9 AM to 8 PM. If you don’t feel like going you can send it with a taxi driver that you can trust.

Other option is money donations, then I can buy food. If you prefer to do cash donations let me know

Please help me to help these families.

$1 provides bread for one hungry family

For only $1 you can provide bread for one hungry family. We only need to look out our windows to see the needy of Cuenca. The volunteers of the Loaves of Love Project are doing what we can. We have already delivered over 4,000 loaves of bread, but there are many more hungry families. That’s why we need your help.

Bread is a staple of the Ecuadoran diet. By contracting with a local bakery, we can bake and deliver fresh nutritious bread to a hungry family for only $1 per bread bag. Each bread bag contains 10 small loaves.

We understand it’s not the best time to ask for money. But we also know, all it takes is $1 to make a difference to a family in need. Please look around for any spare change, it will make a difference.
Our goal, with your help, is to provide bread to another 5,000 hungry Cuenca families. We’re fully transparent. Every dollar goes directly to bake and deliver bread to those in need.

Please note this is corrected link for gofundme (( Please contact us ( for PayPal information, or we’re happy to drop by and safely pick up your donation. Thank you for your support.

Rejuvenation home massage of Cuenca. $10 discount on all services

Lack of human contact affects your physical and mental health. Massage can reverse these conditions.

Stress, depression and anxiety cause negative physiological effects. The body releases the hormone cortisol in response to these stressors. Cortisol can increase heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and muscle tension, it can also suppress the digestive system and the immune system.
We have been using “human touch” for healing purposes since the dawn of humanity. Good doctors recommend massage, yoga, meditation, not as “alternative” treatments, but as a continuation and extension of treatments.
Lack of human contact affects people’s health and psychological well-being on a daily basis. “Human contact is very solid. We need connection for our well-being. It reduces stress, puts us on the ground and connects us, not only to others, but to ourselves.”

Solution: get a relaxing and healthy quality massage at home. Based on the safety procedures required by the health authorities, I will take all the hygiene and safety measures that you would expect. I have experience in deep tissue massage, relaxing, Swedish. Massage is your way of taking control of your health and wellness and reducing stress in the privacy of your home.

The Hop Factory, coffee delivery

We are the only distributor of Vilcabamba’s Café Dona Julita in Cuenca. We started offering it for sale because it is all we drink and as long as we can keep the supply coming in, we will share with the public. The three styles are:

Premium: medium-dark roast $4/400 g available in whole bean or ground (finely ground).

Gourmet: medium roast $5/400 g available in whole bean or ground (course grind).

Honey: medium dark roast $6/400 g available in whole bean or ground (the grind is not super fine-coarser than the Premium dark roast similar to the Gourmet).

Honey roast is a special coffee made for our Black Honey coffee liqueur with Bourbon beans, we let the white pulp of the coffee bean air dry to create a coffee honey coating prior to roasting. Rare and amazing but limited supply.

Our Black Honey is our fantastic coffee liqueur. Developed from a year-long collaboration with the Dona Julita team and our team at The Hop Factory. Very similar to Kahlua but fresh brewed with no preservatives /filters to create a 100% locally made natural taste. (makes amazing white/black Russians).

$15 per bottle (750 ml 16% abv). **Shake before serving as it is all natural and unfiltered.

Reduce sickness, stress – VIP’s In-home caregivers can help

VIP Home Healthcare of Cuenca is a local company that works hard to provide a high quality of in-home healthcare similar to what one might expect in North America. We have a growing number of clients being served by our RN’s and trained Caregivers and we work closely with the client’s doctors and other health professionals to create a care plan that promotes recovery and eases discomfort. Some of our clients need things as simple as weekly inoculations or physical therapy, and we have others who need full time care as they deal with things like stroke, dementia, recovering from various surgeries and more. For our expat clients, we have found that outcomes often improve and are less stressful when care is provided in the comfort of one’s own home and for most of them, in English.

Let us know if you have any questions and if you know of anyone who could use our services. Just give a call or send an email. We would be happy to help in any way we can.

Diffuse Anger

“This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous…Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him.” 1 John 3:11-12, 15

The first murder in the Bible was over worship (Gen. 4:1-8). Abel’s sacrifice was acceptable to God and Cain’s sacrifice was unacceptable. Infused with anger, Cain chose to murder his brother. Consequences ensued as God confronted Cain.

Diffuse anger. Don’t allow the root of bitterness and resentment germinate into anger. Anger will erode your peace and quench the flow of the Holy Spirit in your life. Anger will not produce the righteous life that brings honor to God.

“‘In your anger do not sin’: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” Ephesians 4:26-27

“My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.” James 1:19-20

Diffuse anger by confronting the source of your anger. What is producing the poison of anger in your life? What is generating those intense feelings and internal thoughts within you? Move beyond the symptoms and excavate the depth of your soul. Isolate the pulsating source of your anger. Confront your feelings and renew your mind. Release bitterness and resentment through the avenue of forgiveness. Extend forgiveness. Receive forgiveness.

Be compassionate. Be gentle. Be kind. Be understanding. Be responsive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Make necessary adjustments to conform to the likeness of Christ

Learn Spanish and French and have fun doing it

I’m Elisa and I’ve been a certified teacher of Spanish and French for more than ten years. I’ve studied Spanish language and literature and I worked as a high school teacher of French and Spanish in Cuenca, for five years; then I went to the South of France, where I studied audiovisual production for five years and I was also a Spanish teacher for l’Académie de Montpellier (the French Government) for two years. I came back to Cuenca recently and I’ve been working as a freelance
French and Spanish teacher for a few months.

All of these departures and arrivals make me feel concerned about films, literature, gastronomy but also about psychology, sociology and ecology. I would like to share with you all my passions.

I’ve developed a dynamic method to teach languages. My goal is to adapt the lessons to your needs and interests. If you want to learn Spanish I can show you the city while we have conversations about the history and the present of the city. If your needs are related to grammar, I can find a way to make it simple. And if you are interested in learning French we can talk about French culture and It will be a pleasure to introduce you to French gastronomy.

I’m ready to comply with all the safety measures to have safe face-to-face classes, I can come to your home or you can come to mine but, if you prefer, we can start our classes online.

Recommendation for Dr. Juan Ordoñez Aguirre, dental / periodontista

My husband and I both go to Dr Ordoñez for teeth cleaning. He does an excellent thorough job for $35. Also, Dr Ordoñez has done a dental implant for a front tooth in need of replacement. Very reasonable and fair. He speaks good English or you can practice your Spanish with him.

Recommendation for Ta Lico, restaurant

Ta Lico is a popular Chinese restaurant out on Ordonez Lasso in Gringolandia. The dining room and front garden are pleasant and flowery and immaculately clean always – yet, for the time being we are not going out very often… So, on Sunday afternoon we wanted steamed fish for lunch. We called Theresa, who delivered a whole steamed fish, on the bone as we like it, fall-off tender and easy to eat, just delicious. And Kung Pao chicken and a beer. What a lovely Sunday lunch. Thank you, Ta Lico. So good! Contact on WhatsApp 099 114 0201.

Recommendation for Victor Ojeda -, facilitator, driver, translator, friend

Another positive review for Victor to add to the 1,000 he’s already has here on GringoPost.

Last week we needed a highly trusted native Spanish speaker and translator at a very important HOA General Assembly meeting of our HOA.

About half the owners are native English speakers and half are native Spanish speakers.
Half of the owners attended in person – the other half via a Zoom call.

Victor fit the bill perfectly.

Comments from our HOA President after the meeting included, “You are ready for the United Nations!” and “Your presence was so important too because every gringo physically present at the meeting knew and respected you and of the Ecuadorians on the Zoom call, many knew you too. This made your translations reliable and trustworthy. So important.”

And – “Thanks Victor, we gringos are all so much better off in Cuenca with you as our Amigo!”

I’ve used Victor in the past mostly for all things car related.
License application – license renewal – car inspections and a very difficult car registration + as a very safe driver to the Guayaquil airport.
He knows his way around the bureaucracy. He always gets the job done efficiently.

Thank you once more Victor Ojeda for your expert help.

Recommendation for Dr. Grace Ordonez, dentistry

I have had amalgam fillings since I was a teenager. I guess it wasn’t generally known then that preventive dentistry had to do with particles of food in the mouth and teeth. So, brushing after every meal seemed like a chore rather than a must-do. I had all of these replaced with porcelain by D. Grace, and I’m much happier now. For two years I took a medicinal supplement to remove mercury and other heavy metals from my body tissues which can impair functions. Here is what I say about Dr. Grace’s office: Dr. Grace is the only one who has special equipment that absorbs the vapor from your mouth, while she is working in your mouth. There is no covid virus in the environment. The office is very safe for the dental patients.

Recommendation for Nunkui Ecoferia Amazonica, indigenous artsians

Betty and I visited Nunkui the other day to see the artisan crafts from the Shuar, Kitchwa, Waorani and Andoa tribes. As you may imagine, these indigenous peoples are having difficulties during these trying times. Paul, though born and raised in Cuenca, spent 10 years living among the indigenous in the Amazon, and is incredibly knowledgeable about their customs and cultures. We returned the next day and purchased some amazing pottery pieces, that Paul and Lucia delivered (along with some grass fed beef loin and Amazonian Paiche). If you have the opportunity to visit their shop, do. They are located on Calle Baltazara de Caldern y Miguel Velez (next to Mujeres con Exito). Recommendation for Julien and El Frances Bakery

Artisan French Bakery and Pastry Shop

We cannot rave about Chef Julien and El Frances Bakery enough. We lived right next door to his shop for almost six months this year so it was more than tempting. Can you imagine living next to a French Bakery and smelling the breads and pastries every day? Julien was open during the entire quarantine. He continued to make his delicious baguettes, quiches, lemon tarts, cheesecakes, chocolate chunk cookies, and macaroons during the most challenging of times.

We can highly recommend visiting Julien and El Frances. All his baked goods are originals, baked fresh, daily, and delicately delicious. You can also special order whole pies, cakes, quiches, etc. at reasonable prices. Julien speaks French, Spanish, and English which is very helpful. He is conveniently located in El Centro on Honorato Vasquez next to Moliendo Colombian Restaurant and across from Thai Connection.
