Returning to Ecuador

I have been trying to return to Ecuador since March. I am over 65 and a permanent resident of Ecuador, so I am eligible to return now. I have been sending messages to the Ecuadorian Consulate in the city where I am currently staying. They sent me an information email on May 1 and I replied with the requested documentation and information. Since then I haven’t heard anything and the Consulate has not replied to my messages since May 1. I have missed 3 possible flight dates so far while waiting to receive approval to return. The next humanitarian flight is on Friday, May 15 from my city to Quito where I will quarantine for 14 days.

Does anyone know how long it takes an Ecuadorian Consulate to approve return travel in this case? Does it usually take days, weeks, or months?

Is there anyone who can help me to better understand the requirements? Is there a lawyer or facilitator who can help me?

Please, no negative comments. I need help and a reasonable positive solution to a problem. It is not my intention to criticize anyone here, because this is a difficult time for everyone. I just want to return to my home in Cuenca.

Patricia

Update:
No longer a problem. The Consulate called me yesterday. I have a plane ticket and quarantine reservations. The Consulate assured me that I would receive approval to travel before the departure date. Thanks to all for offering helpful suggestions.

Tenth installment in the Digital Room of the Cuenca Symphony Orchestra

This Wednesday, May 13, at 6 PM the Cuenca Symphony Orchestra presents the tenth installment of the Digital Room on its YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/sinfonicacuenca with the ballet “El lago de los Swans ”by Piotr Ilich Tchaikowsky recorded at the Carlos Cueva Tamariz theater on March 8, 2019, which included the participation of the students of the“ Balletti Dance School ”and the“ Classique Ballet Studio ”, more than 140 dancers who worked very hard to make their presentations flawless. Gabriela Pagliaricci and Andrea Bustos, directors of the invited ballet academies, were also the choreographers.

This is a version dedicated to a child audience, therefore, the work in classical ballet technique involves boys and girls from the age of four and more advanced dancers.

The smallest had roles of: ducks, fireflies, frogs and small swans, giving an important initial contribution and experience to their training.

Classique and Balletti presented in this project the talent and training process that dancers have from initial levels, as well as the participation of professional dancers who are teachers in these academies.

The work is divided into four acts. It begins with the prologue, which is the transformation of a princess into a swan. The first act is the prince’s birthday party; the second and longest, the story of the swans on the lake; the third act is the court dance for the prince to choose his wife; And, the fourth and final act -the shortest- that this time will have a happy ending …

The Cuenca Symphony Orchestra, under its policy of supporting these training spaces and creating opportunities for professional experience, jointly promoted this project with prestigious city academies to offer citizens quality events produced with local talents.

With this delivery there will be ten digital concerts that the public can enjoy from anywhere in the world in our Digital Room.

Etapa invoices

Hi, I have a question, recently Etapa has sent me my invoices by email. Attached to the email is a link were they say you can pay online or with the app but neither are working for me. It either says the page was not found or it simply does not load the page.

Is anyone else having these problems?
If so, how could I pay my invoices?

Stay safe everyone,

Celebrating Mothers in the time of COVID-19

We always take a daily walk, observing those who may be in need of help, particularly the homeless. This past Saturday while on our walk, we passed a young boy Sebastian, 10 years old. He sells vegetables out of a cart on the side of the street in our neighborhood with his mother. When we got almost a block away from him, he ran up to us. He said, ‘Tomorrow is Mother’s Day and I want to do something special for my mother.’ I asked him Why? Sebastian told us that his mother cares for 7 children on her own, his father abandoning them long ago, and she makes just barely enough with her small business to scrape by. They do not get to keep any of the vegetables they sell because their sell them for an aunt. They all live together in one rented room, and she always does whatever she can to keep them fed and healthy, but the COVID-19 crisis has been especially hard on them and they will have no food for Mother’s Day. That was all I needed to hear, so I told him to stop by the foundation on his way back home. Sebastian’s face lit up when we provided him with a chicken and some staple foods, and also a beautiful cake, to take home in celebration of his mother and all that she does to take care of her family.

At Hogar de Esperanza, mothers and children are very important to us, and they comprise the majority of those in need to whom we provide a helping hand. Mothers are a foundation of any society, caring for those they love, teaching so many lessons, making sacrifices. But as strong as they are, sometimes they need help, too. We are here for them when they need us. Nearly half of those we have helped during this crisis have been single mothers, in need of extra help with clothing their new baby, buying diapers or medicines, and most of all right now – feeding their children. Your continuous support of our work has allowed us to help make the lives of these mothers in need a bit happier, healthier and hopeful. Thank you for helping us to help the mothers, and to celebrate all they do to care for their families and children.

To help us provide support to those who need it most right now, especially mothers and children, you can donate online at: http://www.hogaresperanza.org/en/donations/.If you prefer to make a donation through bank transfer, please contact us for the account information. We are also happy to schedule pick-ups of cash donations and in-kind donations of items. Thank you so much – we could not do any of this without you.

Project United in Hope

When will the COVID-19 emergency end? When will things return to some sense of normalcy again?

Every day, the number of people in need increases, and the lines grow longer, for those seeking help at our door. Each day we are seeing 50 more families looking for help and we are struggling to meet the high financial costs of supporting so many.

Since it is impossible to predict the future right now, we instead strive toward a more immediate goal. Let’s focus on getting those most vulnerable through this next month – the month of May. Through Project United in Hope, let us join together to help those who need our help the most right now.

Since the COVID-19 emergency began in March, Hogar de Esperanza has provided:

• Over 2,500 people with food, medicines, clothing and other necessities.
• We have served more than 7,200 meals.
• We have donated $1,200 worth of food and supplies to Cuenca Homeless Shelter.
• Together with the Cuenca Solidaria Program, we have helped provide bread and milk to over 17,500 seniors and children.

Our mission is to help those most vulnerable, the day workers, the homeless, single mothers, children, seniors, and those with medical conditions We spend $5,000 every week on food, medicines and other necessities. We need $15,000 to make it through the remainder of May, to provide support for people who would otherwise have nowhere else to turn.

Please help us to help others by donating whatever you can. Together, united, we can bring hope and relief to those who are struggling most in our community right now, and get them through another month of this crisis.

Please donate online at: http://www.hogaresperanza.org/en/donations/. If you prefer to make a donation through bank transfer, please contact us for the account information. We are also happy to schedule pick-ups of cash donations.

Handling stress in difficult times? Medicine for conciseness

One of the negative aspects of confinement is the high level of stress. Therefore, there are difficulties in sleep, tiredness, fatigue, postural pain, typical of the body that has released cortisol.

The biggest challenge we have at this time is to face our thoughts (mind) that searches, wisdom, truths, control. But how do we do it? If we have neither wisdom, nor truths, nor control? The tool is to have an optimal mind, and we can have it through the search of knowledge, most importantly, we all have that potential to achieve it.

In these times of quarantine, we do so by telemedicine, if through zoom or Skype appointment …

Craft beer delivery from The Hop Factory

Enjoy our craft beer in the comfort of your own home.

Our available beers are: IPA (6%), Stout (6%) Sour Stout (6%), American Ambar Ale (6%), Pale Ale (5.5%), and Jamaica Shandy (4.5%). All our beer is hand made here in Cuenca using food grade Stainless Steel equipment with all the correct permissions/registro sanitarios. We make a truly “old school” beer that is unfiltered and naturally carbonated (so we don’t need to worry about C02 shortages because we don’t use it).

Deliveries will be 8 AM to 11 AM on Thursdays (due to current restrictions). Please have all orders in by Wednesday to ensure on-time delivery. We have a minimum of 6 beers per order. Beers are $3 each (300ml). For more info about The Hop Factory and our beer visit
https://m.facebook.com/thehopfactory

We also have Coffee and Coffee liqueur available:

We are the only distributor of Vilcabamba’s Café Dona Julita in Cuenca. We started offering it for sale because it is all we drink and as long as we can keep the supply coming in we will share with the public. The three styles are:

“Premium” dark roast $4/400g available in whole bean or ground (finely ground).
“Gourmet” medium roast $5/400g available in whole bean or ground (course grind).
“Honey:” dark roast $6/400g available in whole bean or ground (the grind is not super-fine, more coarse than the premium dark roast similar to the Gourmet). This is a special coffee made for our Black Honey coffee liqueur with Bourbon beans, we let the white pulp of the coffee bean air dry to create a coffee honey coating prior to roasting. Rare and amazing but limited supply.

Our Black Honey is our fantastic coffee liqueur. Developed from a year-long collaboration with the Dona Julita team and our team at The Hop Factory. Very similar to Kahlua but fresh brewed with no preservatives/filters to create a 100% locally made natural taste. (makes amazing white/black Russians) $15 per bottle (750 ml 16% abv). **Shake before serving as it is all natural and unfiltered.
All orders must be $18 or $2 will be added for delivery.

We look forward to the world getting back to normal and inviting you all back out to our little hidden brewery. In the meantime, we are here to help you enjoy life a little more at home.

Support refugees in the city and help them to resist the pandemic

Dear, Friend.

My name is Karla Sánchez, and I’m the Public Relations Manager at GRACE: Give Refugees a Chance. We seek to integrate refugees in extremely vulnerable situations successfully, to the Cuencano society, by offering free legal and medical consultations, medications for patients, employments services, and other essential items like food and clothing to families in need.

While we have made some great strides, by providing with food kits to 250 families, still has a lot to accomplish. According to Casa del Migrante, there are close to 10,000 Venezuelan refugees in the city. Your donation makes a big difference in the lives of many refugee families with little kids or special medical conditions who are struggling due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

We need your support to buy essential groceries to help them stay at home. By protecting them, we are protecting all the community.

“We have food for about a week. We are running out of rice and pasta. For me, the help would mean a blessing from God. We are surviving in this country. We would greatly appreciate it.”
Yordano Arturo Chacon Hernandez, Venezuelan refugee.

If you have any questions, I would be happy to provide you with more information about how you can help support our work at GRACE: Give Refugees a Chance.

If you wish to contribute, please, go to https://giverefugeesachance.org/donate/
Thank you very much for your consideration.

Would you consider donating $25 or more each month to help us achieve our mission?

Daily encouragement from Trinity Vineyard Church

Reward in Serving

“Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.” Revelation 22:12

What motivates you to serve? Do you serve for immediate recognition or eternal reward? Who is calculating your service? Jesus is the Rewarder! As you live to please Him and serve Him, Jesus rewards you personally both now and in the life to come. As Bruce Willkinson says, “Your belief determines where you spend eternity. Your behavior determines how you will spend eternity.” Jesus rewards your obedience in serving Him.

Reward for Giving:

“He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done.” Proverbs 19:17

“But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:3-4

Reward for Praying:

“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:6

Reward for fasting:

“But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:17-18

Your life counts. Are you willing to allow Jesus to live in you and through you in order to serve others? Your service to God will be rewarded by God.

Ordonez Lasso.

Postponed – Informational class for pet owners

La Mia Mascota veterinary service and pet shop regret to inform you that, for personal reasons, the informational class for pet owners will not be held this Thursday as previously announced. Once it is rescheduled, we will post new announcements in GringoPost. Thank you for your kind interest.

La Mia Mascota Veterinary Service and La Mia Mascota Pet Shop support the Fundación FAAN – a non-profit group of animal defenders in Cuenca that works to help at risk abandoned animals and to find homes for them once they are rehabilitated. FAAN also works to create a public conscience about animal abuse, teach the public about sterilizing their animals, and reduce the number of abandoned animals. Donations and inquiries can be made at the La Mia Mascota Pet Shop in locale 27 of the Las Americas Commercial Center.

We are very conscious of the situation of animals reproducing freely in the general Cuenca area. Depending on the circumstances and whenever possible, La Mia Mascota Veterinary Service offers free sterilizations for male and female animals.

She helped me steer clear of a very bad real estate deal and helped me change the type of residency visa I was applying for when the first choice did not work out. Big news at The Good Life Cafe

We have been working on our expansion plans and we are almost ready to announce some Big News. Stay tuned.

Order online at http://www.tglcafe.com or Call: 096 269 4801
We are closed on Mondays.
We take orders between 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM Tues – Sunday

Today’s Burger of the Day – Bacon Cheese Burger – 5 oz. of Burger, Bacon, Cheese, Lettuce and Tomato. This is a classic but especially delicious when we make it. – $5.

Here is our menu – by the way, we added a new sandwich called the Castro…It is, as we say in the north, wicked good.

1. Bacon Cheese Burger (we cannot get Smokehouse Bacon at the moment, but as soon as we can we will go back to using it on our burgers) – 5 oz. of ground beef cooked to perfection, topped with bacon, cheddar cheese, onions, lettuce and tomatoes and Professor Pat’s Bar-B-Que sauce – $5 For the Entire Month of May – Also, see daily burger specials for the Month of May which is National Hamburger Month

2. Big Ass Burrito – Your choice of chicken, ground beef or vegetarian, Mediterranean rice, black beans, corn, sauteed onions and peppers, mixed cheese, guacamole, and our special South Western sauce – $6.95

3.Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich – The Closest thing to a real Philly Cheesesteak in Cuenca – Lomo Fino cooked to perfections with Sauteed Peppers and Onions with Cheddar & Mozzarella Cheese packed into a freshly baked sub roll – $7.95

4. Chicken Cheesesteak Sandwich – Chicken Breast cooked to perfections with Sauteed Peppers and Onions with Cheddar & Mozzarella Cheese packed into a freshly baked sub roll – $6.95

5. Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos – “Better than Bone Fish Grill” – Lightly breaded and fried shrimp (from the sea, Not farmed), our homemade cole slaw and our proprietary bang bang sauce. Each order comes with 2 big tacos – $7.95

6. Quintessentially Quixotic Quesadilla – This Ain’t Jo Mamma’s Quesadilla – Our quesadilla is BIG…we’re talkin’ really big. It is crammed full of ingredients including chicken or beef, sauteed onions and peppers, corn, black beans and cheese. – $6.50

7. The Castro – A new twist on the old Cuban sandwich – Chicken, ham, cheese, homemade pickles and mustard served on a sub roll. – $6.50

Also, our stir fry went over so well yesterday we are adding it to the menu permanently. Our stir fry is awesome and has tons of fresh veggies including zucchini, summer squash, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, broccoli and cauliflower. If you stopped there it would be a hell of a vegetarian meal. But we have beef, chicken and shrimp that can be added to it. On top of that we have two sauces, teriyaki and coconut curry, each is amazing. The prices are great too. Vegetarian $6, Chicken or Beef $7 and Shrimp $8. This is a crazy good meal for a very reasonable price and you can have it delivered to your door.
