Can I afford living well in Cuenca?

HI, I’m on a fixed income of $1600, I have 2 small dogs and hate to cook. My question to you guys is can I afford living in Cuenca with that money? I will like to have cable and cell phone service among other normal utilities. How much will insurance be? How much in vet and dog food? Is it good to buy a car or just use public transport?

HM Coleccion Boutique Hostal

Good morning everyone, we are HM Coleccion. We are new here on GringoPost but not for long. Let me introduce you to this wonderful hostal:

HM Coleccion Boutique Hostal is new here in Cuenca. It is for every person that needs a fresh relaxing place to stay. There is 24-hour security and concierge daily in this hostal and cleanness is priority here as well as our guests being always well attended.

The owners are Expats, Jhon and Sharon from New Zealand and Australia, they have renovated this into an amazing place with North American standard private bathrooms and a 360-degree view rooftop terrace. Recommendation for Cristina Flores Ortiz, Spanish teacher

Cristina has reinvented Spanish instruction. Instead of toiling over grammar texts in a classroom, you visit fun and interesting places here in Cuenca. With the city for a classroom, you have a context for every lesson. Museums, artesan and artist workshops, galleries, historic buildings, parks and plazas, cafes and restaurants, parades, fairs and celebrations all are learning opportunities. So are musical events, songs and movies. Learn by doing, and discover another, deeper layer of the city you are here to enjoy. For over a year Cristina has been opening the door for me to the city, its culture and its people. It takes work to learn a language, but with Walking Spanish Lessons you don’t have to wait to enjoy the experience – it’s a pleasure every day.

Recommendation for Paradise Indian Restaurant

I recently ate at Paradise Indian restaurant and it was fabulous. I was in Southern India last April and the food from Paradise is absolutely authentic. In fact, there was no meal over the course of two weeks in India that was better than Paradise. Chef Abin is a master and host Chinnu is simply charming. Food can be made with or without heat, so if you want some delicious Indian food or to try something new, I highly recommend Paradise Indian Restaurant.

Recommendation for Rob Lumpkin, reflexology

I recommend Rob´s Reflexology therapy. The experience is excellent. One has to experience it for themselves in order to believe. The sensation during the treatment is amazing. He warned me that I would fall asleep and in the middle of the session I felt drowsy, sleepy and wanted to give in sooo bad. He targeted the areas in which I was experiencing pain. Now I’m more relaxed.

I told him that I usually go to the gym and said that reflexology compliments me perfectly and will help with endurance, which is true because after his appointment, I came home and worked out a little bit. Rob, thank you sooo much. You are an amazing man. So thankful to have met you.

Helping families with autism and other disabilities in Ecuador

In Ecuador, many families live with the sad reality of having a family member with a disability. Autism (and other disabilities) is a terrible problem when there is little to no support from the government.

There are great programs, providing support, for people with disabilities, in the United States. One, in particular, is called ¨Lambs Farm”. We are looking to use this a model for a countrywide project in Ecuador. This will entail acquiring land, creating a therapeutic farm, building an educational center and clinic. This will provide support for children with disabilities and their families. It will provide information to the government. This is all part of an attempt to heighten the awareness about the urgent need for support.

On February 15, in the beautiful Hotel Inca Real, we are having a Valentine’s Day Weekend Gala. It will be a formal event – Gourmet food and some of the best music in Ecuador. Charity with rhythm.

We have created this event with the solidarity of many other charities in Cuenca. These charities will also benefit from the ticket sales. Tickets are $75 and are selling nicely. You can purchase your tickets from us or from your favorite charity. We are inviting guests from all over the country and from other countries.

This will, also boost tourism in Cuenca. Cuenca is the perfect place to be with your sweetheart.

Please feel free to share this post.

If you haven’t stopped in for a meal, you are missing out – we are told that are food is outstanding and the number of regular customers we have established in a short period of time is a testament to the hard work we’ve done (and will continue to do) to provide a completely enjoyable dining experience. For those of you that enjoy my humorous writings, I will resume shortly. My brain is fried from all that has to be done to change the name of the business. Change the name they said…it will be fun they said. What they didn’t say was how much work is involved. A new name requires a new logo, website, blah, blah, blah. Trust me when I say I am excited about the possibilities the new name brings but I am exhausted by the mere thought of everything that needs to be done. Some things that we are going to be doing:

1. New Website with menu and the ability to order food online and have it delivered.

2. An app that does the same thing but resides on your smart phone

3. A Good Life Weekly Pod Cast produced from the Good Life Cafe and featuring a different regular customer or vendor or interesting person.

4. Online video cooking classes for those that want to know the secrets of our “Top Chef”

5. Positive, Upbeat stories on our website that will make you smile

6. Fun events

7. A Good Life VIP Club that includes all sorts of benefits

8. Custom flavored coffee for those that miss your hazelnut, French vanilla and other flavored coffees.

9. Dinners with Guest Chefs

10. Gourmet Tours

11. and Much, much more

These are just a few things we have in store for our customers at The Good Life Cafe.

Currently, we are open from Mon – Sat, 9 AM – 3 PM and Sun. for Brunch from 9 AM to 1 PM.
